  1. There's a ham club in Bushnell. Have you contacted them to find out if any of their members could be bribed with a six-pack to help you out? Maybe they have some GMRS fans in their ranks who'd help in exchange for use of your repeater (or adult beverages). Crash their lunch or breakfast meeting, or send their contacts an email. https://k4hog.org/
  2. Oh wait. Reddit's slower than this place, by far. My bad.
  3. Due to an FCC agreement with Canada, channels 19 and 21 cannot be used in the buffer zone between lines A and B, and C and D on this zoomable map: https://www.fcc.gov/reports-research/maps/frequency-coordination-canada/ This prevents large swathes of the US from using either of these frequencies.
  4. Sir, this is a Wendy's. OK, stupid jokes aside... I, too, am a noob and freshly-minted licensee, and I have explored this site over the past couple of weeks to find out if I want to spend time here. You posted this a half hour after joining. Have you noticed the wealth of information accumulated on this site over more than a decade? If topic views are any indication, there is a ton of lurkers on here who search their questions, find their answers, and go on their merry way without posting. There are regulars on here who continue to share their knowledge and make this place a small but helpful community. Be the change you want to see in the world and participate if you're looking for more laid-back interaction, or hit up Reddit if you want high volume (and topic repetition). As for the ads, yeah they're annoying, but do you have an ad blocker and/or security software installed? That might help! I'm sorry you had to go through that. Welcome aboard, in all sincerity. I, too, hope to see this forum gain popularity.
  5. Don't know what "cw" means (again, I'm new). As for the call sign, the DMV is unlikely to let this particular combination of numbers and letters fly on a vanity plate. I apologize if I'm coming off as a troll. I was genuinely asking. "Tongue twister" is actually a spot-on way to describe it, come to think of it, but this is a family forum so I'll leave it at that.
  6. So--and I'm, um, asking for a friend--one can get a new license/call sign if their current one is ridiculous?
  7. Welcome from another newcomer! From what I've read/watched, you'll probably be really happy with those TD-H3s.
  8. Welcome from another newcomer!
  9. Howdy, neighbor! While I currently live on the Idaho side of the state line, I spent the past decade in TC and still have family (and property) there. Good luck with your build! My step-kid graduated from Noxon High just a few years ago. Big state, small world! Edited to add: I only have the pair of Baofeng UV-5G Plus HTs. For now. God help me.
  10. Are you two in love?
  11. Hiking, tromping around... hunting to the extent it's legal to use radios. Been out of the saddle for a long time, unfortunately, and I wouldn't trust my truck to manage a puddle these days, lol. I'm not a hard-core prepper or anything, but one excuse to get them is for emergencies.
  12. Rolling in from the N. Idaho/NW Montana area to say hello! Brand-new to GMRS and radios in general. Have yet to program in my first repeater, and have had to watch several YouTube videos to figure out how to turn the power-on knob on my new HTs. Looking to learn, but I'll be comfortable with my forum handle for a while!
