  1. This makes sense to me, but the TD-H3 doesn't have 'banks', so no way to separate them as far as I know. That would be nice, though.
  2. Thanks, gang. I think I'll put them all in as well as the NOAA channels but set those to not scan. As this is my first foray into the GMRS and repeater forest, anybody have a recommended YouTube channel to look at for some edumakation? I'd prefer GMRS-based non-HAM if possible.
  3. How do you all set up your channels? There's heaps more available than my MURS option. My thought is that my radio will be outfitted with all the channels while the ones I give to other, such as my wife, I'd only put in a couple of GMRS channels, maybe the local NOAA channel, and perhaps a couple of FM radio channels. All those will have easily identifiable names to the channels (ex. MAIN-01, BAKUP, etc.) that would be simple for anybody to use and recognize. Just curious as how you keeners get things running slick.
  4. So I went through every single port I had (6 on hub, 4 on back of PC, 4 on front of PC) with 4 different USB cable. 45 minutes later I've identified 2 cables that work with 2 different USB ports. Yes, one cable works on one port but no others and another cable works on another port but on no others. Can't make this stuff up. What the actual... I'm hoping the TD cable I've got coming in will work with any port. Anyways, it *seems* to be working with CHIRP now and has increased my grey hair count by several dozen. Geeze I hate debugging. Thanks for everyone's input.
  5. Yes, I've tried every combination of power on/off, plug in/out, USB port, and nothing. It always shows up as that same error. I have several radios and all of them produce the same error. I've wizzed away hours on with this and am pretty close to chucking the whole thing in the river!
  6. Yeah, that's exactly what I attempted, but everything seems to be a massive turd nowadays. I have the programming cable on the way. This is total BS that things just don't work correctly anymore.
  7. The problems are that it's on a small phone screen and it seems like I have to be logged into something before it's usable. Not sure if that second part is a requirement but it's damned irritating and smells like some sort of click-bait. If worst comes to worst, I can do that, but I'd rather use CHIRP.
  8. I've used a UART gizmo in the past for connecting stuff to my home theater PC with good success so it's good sign that the K1-USB cable has that in it.
  9. Tanx! That's what I figured, but you never know.
  10. Thanks, gang. For some reason the USB port isn't being recognized by Windows for the radio but it does for other things I plug in. Weird. I went ahead and order the Kenwood (HA!) cable so perhaps that'll fix my problem. Will let you all know.
  11. I'm on Starlink so my ground station is shown as being up around the Dallas area. This means when I use that option to see the repeaters near me, it only shows the ones up around the Dallas area. I guess I could spoof it with a VPN, but is there a way here to set my position?
  12. Is the kenmore cable more apt to be seen by Windows? I assume it's USB-A on one end and then the dual (3 mm?) plugs on the other? It' be a bit odd that it would pick that up and not the USB, particularly since it is seeing other things plugged into it. It appears Tidradio has them and it looks just like the Wuoxon (SP?) ones I've seen before Firmware issue or something?
  13. Not true. I did scan the manual. I did search the WWW and Tubes. I did see this. You are not correct. There are 2 USB ports: one on the bottom of the unit, which is the battery, is for charging. The other is under the cover on the side and it is shown to be used for programming. Heaps of people are using it for that. Example below. Not sure what the problem is with it not being picked up as another port on my PC, so I was hoping somebody would have some other input based on some more experience. I thought perhaps maybe it was a firmware thing or something else that I'm not sure how to address and thought somebody here would know better than me. Do you run or have you used a H3? If so, how did you program it?
  14. I'm seeing none of this, only the two standard ports. I've never seen a port named that either (CH340). I get a USB serial port showing up when I plug other things in, such as a Meshtastic node, but nothing when I plug in the H3.
  15. Has there been any forward movement on this? I have H3's. I've used CHIRP for other radios in the past but for some reason Windows 10 isn't recognizing anything when I plug the USB in. CHRIP doesn't see any port other than COM1 and LPT1, which are not the USB port. I know I can connect to other things via USB (Meshtastic nodes for example), but CHIRP sees nothing. The "help me" part doesn't recognize any cable being plugged in either. I see all these guys on YouTube doing it without a hitch. I'd rather use CHRIP on a PC. There's no way you can convince me doing the same work on a 6" screen is any more effective than on a 30" monitor with a full keyboard and mouse.
  16. First post and relative radio noob. Have a couple of rarely used MURS HT and a Meshtastic solar node on a 30 ft tower so I fgured what the heck: GMRS. Got my license and have a couple of TD-H3 radios en route via the almighty Amazon. My searches only show *maybe* one repeater in range, so I might be a lone voice in the dark out here! Anyways, good day from out past the Brazos River!
