Over use of call sign announcements on GMRS
WSEL330 replied to SvenMarbles's topic in General Discussion
I told the people at work that 'I identify as WSEL330' spoken phonetically. HR hates me. -
You could try to Fox hunt it AND what about the skid marks in the driveway?

I realize that I am sliding down this radio rabbit hole. I cobbled together a 'repeater' with 2 GMRS50-V2's (BTech). I attempted to use a Surecom SR628 plugged into each ones K1 adapters. That didn't work. I looked at the rj45 schematics and saw that the pin2, for RPT CTRL, doesn't even go to the k1 side of the adapter. OK, line from external speaker jack(no data on that plug) on receive radio to K1 on transmit radio and put that one on VOX. It operates but it doesn't sound good (of course I do not have a second person to help test it so I used an HT with ear piece and my vehicle mobile rig to test at about 150' from the antenna). The BTech has an option for 'REP-M' describes 'Repeater Forwarding Mode (X-band repeater with 2 BTECH Mobiles)'. I have a feeling X band is something i am ignorant to. previous sentence sets up this thought, could I plug in a RJ45 jumper to both? Not really confident in that one. SOO, I googled some stuff with an idea. Will K1RFD Echostation work as a repeater controller with my PC and the two radios plugged into it with the programing cables (RJ45-USB). I totally spiraling towards getting a legit repeater but I am working and learning with what I have. OR anyone able to set up two Radioddy DB 40g's as repeaters? and how?

Outta curiosity or gaps in my education, Duplexer or no. I'm guessing the RF's occupying the same antenna would still be a problem. If a duplexer is used, would it have to be purpose built or just tuned?

"I used the PFM" love that sh&$!

(thinking, Is he talking about me?) LMAO

You mean you heard from a friend how they did that. Be careful, you don't want to go to radio jail where they desense you and you have to constantly remind them that you do use your call sign....

How'dy folks, Based on another topic regarding using GMRS and Ham on the same radio, I think it was my question about what my UV-5RM was. Preface: Assuming use case is moot or whatever Assuming I have the correct antennas Assuming I have two radios from the same manufacturer Assuming one has both licenses Questions: 1)Can one set up a repeater to RX GMRS and then TX to HAM or vise versa? 2)Would one use a duplexer? 3)Could a duplexer be tuned to two totally different bands? 4) Based on discussion on the UV-5RM would the freakshow over seeing us have a problem with that type of repeater? Asking for a friend...

Hmmm, using unlocked radios could be RAM - Rogue HAM DMR....hmmm....thinking....tick,tick

Heavens to betsy, I am upstanding member of society....Asking for a friend.

I do have both licenses. It would be nice to have it do both freq's

Does it need to be unlocked. I realize this is a simple question. This is a 'specific info' example...

Funny one I read about MURS
WSEL330 replied to Davichko5650's topic in Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS)
That must have been fun. I was a section leader for AAVC7A1 which carried the Battalion staff COM element but that was when we had RT246's and 442's and changed over to SIGARS (SP) -
I realized that after reading the manual. The Mandela effect is kicking hard because when I posted, I thought I had questions and then Randy asked and I was unprepared and stymied. The information I craved was now gone...Weird. My cravings for Maroon crayons has jaded my perspective on life as I know it...Maybe it is a conspiracy involving pork...or rubber ducks on a dash board...or phonetic language rotting my brain...DAMN, the world is too flat for this stuff! I'll be over here rocking back and forth with my aluminum wrap until I have to go to work again...lmao with beverages....

Read the back and forth again. Just adding humor as I sit here at work and ponder my existence.

No, Sir, I am unfairly projecting my inner instincts on to a noble Matriarch. I am profoundly embarred by my profiling of CCR's. Please find it in your stony little heart to forgive a peasant....No, I realize you are an asset to this community and appreciate your dedication to help. I have struggle with programing a repeater but only invested a short time doing it. I am refamiliarizing myself with the machine and manual. This started way back when shinola was equivalent to feces to me.

Crap, umm....how to integrate into my enigma machine to take over the world or stuff I am too lazy to read, comprehend and try. Youtubes are more fun. I am sure it will come up as I get bored and understand its limitation or my own mental short falls. BUT thank you for not calling it crap right outta the gate.

I purchased this thing a long time ago before the learning curve kicked me square in the...yeah. I was that guy that bought a radio for something other than GMRS freq's (no, not you guys...frequencies, well you guys too). I recently got into HAM license which this thing is for. I have tried to look for videos and etc... for it but not an exact match to what I am see on the machine or manual. Obviously the instructions leave a little to be desired. Is this the same as something else which is in use now like UV5-R(M). I can basically operate it but want more info. Thank you in advance for your help.

Kinda what they/we do in the military to some extent at small unit level. -
I have been in GMRS for about a year now and have had fun with it. I recently got a HAM license. I'm not sure what to call myself... GMAM - (Gee Ma'am) SPAM - Not completely HAM but there is some in there 'GMRS HAM - (Gee Mrs. Ham) - O.G. GMRS and HAM Radio Dork - self evident HARS I think I will settle with John. Kinda smooth, flows...Yeah that's it, John.

Too new to know how to become one.... I am really interested in connecting folks in the Tidewater area (Virginia Beach, VA), more specifically the southside. The peninsula has a robust presence but we do not. I think we need to compliment the area for emergencies AND build the GRMS base here. So...let me know how I can pull this off getting to premium and start a club. 2/B) anyone interested, please speak up here or anywhere or on the FB page. DM me, whatever.

You give them far too much credit...

CTCSS/DCS tones on different brands of radios
WSEL330 replied to Lambing's topic in General Discussion
Umm, we are all adults, right? We all faced the same learning curves, right? We all can still communicate even with different terminologies, right? We adapt to the situation's terminologies, right? (kinda like two tradesman from different states working together and his whosiewhatsit is the other guys thingajiger but by the end of the day they understand the same concept). Teaching and mentoring is one thing but you can't force someone to learn anything especially based on your perception. Lead a horse to water type thing. Justa Sayin' -
