I'm pretty sure using data on GMRS radios is mostly proprietary at the moment. Each manufacturer has their own implementation so there's no interoperability between them. And, I doubt there will be anytime soon. Without some kind of standard similar to APRS, it would be hard for that to exist.

    I figured,, how boring.

  2. Hi. Im jeff, down in the kenai area. Im a life long commercial fisherman. We've always had tons of radios and coms on fishing boats from cb,2meter,10meter,ssb, vhf, sat coms, you name it, so I've always like radios and after the 2018 earthquake then the covid stuff i decided to get into gmrs for all the options like repeaters and different antennas and not having to get ham tickets for me and the wife. Thats about it for my intro.

    Anyone still catching coho?

  3. I saw a youtube vid of some guys from Anchorage or eagle River 4x'n using channel 20 last month,  now that you mention it. I'll have to do some scanning a bit more and see if I can find the popular channels around the peninsula.

Are you still using the same tones on the repeater? Did you go up and fix it or did it just get sunny enough to come back on?

I carry a inreach mini when I'm longlining (deckhand) out in the gulf of alaska.  I use the freedom plan for $65 and unlimited texting and tracking and weather it's awesome.  The boss is cool with us using the Sat phone but to be able to text at-will from almost anywhere is so nice.

  5. Was deere the only manufacturer with that software/ monopoly or repairs? My neighbor has  LS 35hp backhoe and it's nice with all the bells and whistles but with all the cargo back logs getting parts can take forever. But the 300 hours I sat in the seat clearing my lot was fun but it was all plastic.  Fenders cab everything and being a fisherman who's " paid from the neck down" I really had to watch myself so I didn't destroy it. Thanks for the reply guys
