  1. This article is a goldmine of information, and it includes links to GMRS radio manuals.  I bookmarked it.  Learning how GMRS radio's implement privacy codes, sub-codes, interference eliminator codes, all mfg slang for CTCSS or DCS is very helpful.  I appreciated how Baofeng implemented them in a similar fashion to HAM radio (example: DCS code 023 is Baofeng D023N).

  2. Thanks!  Simple stuff, but clarification is always helpful.

    Radio Feature Idea!

A programmable button that broadcasts your personal call sign.  You would program the button with your own call sign and at the press of the special "Call Sign" button, your call sign is broadcast using an electronic voice like NOAA Weather broadcasts.

  3. My daughter and son-in-law are interested in some form of emergency communication, so I bought them an inexpensive HAM radio and the study book for the Technician license.  You can guess how that worked out.  It didn't.  Too much for them to digest.  Completely understandable.  They are in their middle working years and don't have the time or interest in pursuing a hobby as involved as HAM radio.  Still, they desire a emergency communication system they can use if the need arises.  GMRS seems to be the ideal choice for them.
