  1. Thanks guys. You saved me about $60
  2. We are installing an Icom 4100 in a vehicle. The mic attaches to the main unit which is under the seat. The control head has no mic attachment. And of course the mic cord is too short. Icom's extension is $75. Since the mic has an RJ-45 (8pin) modular can I use a standard Cat 6 extension (or a cable with a coupler attached) or do I need the Icom cable?
  3. FRS and GMRS share a few frequencies. The difference seems to be that FRS is narrow band and GMRS is wide band. How does this effect us in actual use? What make one better than the other?
  4. For all of you who are due to renew soon .... In accordance with Murphy's Law the fee reduction will take effect the day after you renew.
  5. Thanks, that definitely does help
  6. Lscott, thanks for the reply. One more question ref MURS (which in all honesty is the direction I was leaning). There are 5 channels, is there any adv of one over another? Are the Blue and Green the same as the other 3 or something special? (i lied, 2 more questions)
  7. The situation: I live on a mountain that, as all mountains do, has quite a few obstructions in the form of trees, rocks etc. FRS bubble pack radios are just plain too weak to be much use (I do have them and have tried repeatedly, not gonna work). I'm trying to decide on a frequency for our handhelds that we carry when we need to communicate in the wooded areas. Some people tell me to use GMRS frequencies and some say MURS. I'm trying to find a freq that is public, not busy and legal. Is there a range of freqs that I can stay in and find something nobody is using or are there set freqs I need to stay on , etc etc. Fill me in
  8. Being new to this I need a clarification. mbrun in your post you gave an example of a neighborhood using the system for a 'watch'. Given that scenerio, here's the question: Assume the whole neighborhood is using (for example) frequency XXX.xxx but Group A has set the tone to 100 and Group B has the tone set to 50 are you saying that Group A will not hear Group B (or am I totally mixed up and need to do some more reading)?
