  1. There are a few active repeaters that aren't listed. What's protocol there? Figure out the ctcss and ask permission over the repeater?
  2. I tried a handheld in my house as a receiver then went out to my car and my wife tried and I only got the break.
  3. Do they ever respond? I have sent a request to all the open repeaters around my area and have got zero responses. One of them I am able to signal and it gets a couple seconds of static like a second after I release the ptt but won't transmit anything so I'm guessing it's split tone? The ctcss wasn't what was listed either. I just went right up the list until #30 got results.
  4. They have all different kinds but they have a selection of uhf that cover that band. Mostly Motorola
  5. I am currently looking at used PS radios that can be programmed with 16 channels when purchased. Do these radios usually support repeaters? Are they easy to program yourself?
  6. I live in the suburbs and my neighbors already dont like me because of my big dogs, wood stoves, wood piles and chainsaw season. For a week i had the midland ghost mounted to a cookie sheet hanging from my roof with dangling cables. Definitely stick out around here. Had my wolf hybrid pulling my kids on a sled up and down the road today, they usually pull the wood kart in spring. I dont have the luxury of being out of sight, im on like a half acre with neighbors on 3 sides.
  7. I am getting like 8 miles now. I was just hitting some dead spots when I made this post. I raised my antenna another 5 feet today so its a couple feet higher than the peak of my roof and I have lmr400 coming tomorrow. Hopefully that gets me out a little further. I just can't get past 4 miles through one city with highrises and stuff, every other direction I'm good though. Hopefully the added height and cable bump up my numbes
  8. Pretty flat area. I'm in rhodeisland and I can get 4 miles from my handheld btech to car base in my driveway. This was done base to base. Car has a 6db midland magmount 3' and browning is above my rooftop at like 25-30'. Im starting to get chatter now but my concern is my hanheld btech is picking up stuff this base isn't and im inside. The wire wraps around the antenna base twice then runs like 1/3 of the way up then drops back down the inside of the mast, so there is a bunch of cable around the antenna, I dont know if that would matter or not.
  9. Terrible reception, was getting 3 times the range with a midland ghost on a cookie sheet yesterday. Could my issue be that I ran the wire back up alongside the antenna to drop down the mast?
  10. Just installed in my house and im pretty disappointed. My btech v1 handheld attached to a midland ghost antenna on my roof was getting 7 miles out yesterday and im having trouble with like 3 now. Im actually running the handheld with its normal antenna now and picking up stuff the base/browning isn't. Any ideas? There is only 50' of line between base and antenna and its powered by a pyramid 70w 5/7a power supply.
  11. Out of the like 15 repeaters in my area I think there were only 2 or 3 that were not split tone
