Thanks, Michael. Not the answer I was hoping to hear, but thank you for replying to a GMRS newbie.

Roadtrekker got a reaction from kidphc in Light at the End of the Tunnel — KG-905G
Yesterday, Buy Two Way Radios website froze up for me , so I telephoned a small order in.
After placing the order, I asked about the status of the 905G. The answer was: the tracking number showed expected delivery to them of 5/25. Although Customs sometimes takes a day or two to clear shipments.

Roadtrekker got a reaction from wrku937 in Just passed the exams!
Congratulations! This from an old ham who had to pass CW (morse code) at 20 words per minute (took 3 tries). I know some of us old time hams denigrate newer hams who did't have to pass tha code. But I don't think they have looked at the new question pools. To me, they seem much harder than the old exams I took including Advanced (very heavy on the math), Extra, GROL with radar endorsement and GMDSS?
So, once again congratulations. (and when a e you going for Extra?)

Roadtrekker reacted to gortex2 in Channel Usage
Put it in scan but doubt you'll hear anything you asked above. GMRS does not have a WX channel or traffic reports. As much as i hate to say it CB is more of what you describe. While I hate it I do run both in my RV for traveling. If your looking to find out why traffic is slow or stopped that's the only place you'll find info on a radio. The use of GMRS while traveling is to talk to a vehicle in front or behind you in your travel party.
Unofficial GMRS emergency channel is 463.675 but YMMV. I have never heard emergency traffic on that channel and most likely if i did no one would be monitoring it anyway !
