KG-1000G programing - AM Band Scan Group
htims05 replied to htims05's question in Technical Discussion
My programming cable came today - yes if you put the AM freq's into the main channel listing, and then you can edit the scan groups (1 of 10) to only be those channels...and you can make the scan key on the keypad of the mic default to just scan that group (you can also change this in the radio menu - it defaults to all right now). so the short answer - yes it works. -
I don't yet have my programing cable for the KG-1000G but I was wondering if it's possible to create a custom scan group of AM channels - in frequency mode? I like to listen to air traffic from time to time.

KG-1000G use non-gmrs frequencies - HOW-TO?
htims05 replied to htims05's question in Technical Discussion
Page 40 if it's the same version as the downloadable PDF from BTWR. Sure enough - I was up in the frequency mode section page 34ish -

Well darn - that was it. I guess I missed that in the manual somewhere. -
KG-1000G use non-gmrs frequencies - HOW-TO?
htims05 replied to htims05's question in Technical Discussion
Yep, that's correct. -
I have a KG-1000G and in the manual it says it can listen on these additional bands in Frequency Mode: KG-1000G Frequency Bands 50.000 - 53.995 MHz 108.000 - 179.995 MHz 320.000 - 349.995 MHz 400.000 - 479.995 MHz 700.000 - 985.000 MHz However I'm not able to tune many of the frequencies such as 120.500. When I enter that it gives a beep and reverts to the previously entered frequency. Is there something else I need to enable?

Wouxun KG-1000G tips and tricks thread
htims05 replied to Sbsyncro's question in Technical Discussion
Yes - I have the head 50 feet away from the base. Base is in the basement, head is upstairs in my office. I suspect you could go farther but at some point the resistance in the network cable would probably cause it to not work correctly/at all. I've had nothing but positive reports on radio checks running 50 feet and a 12.34v power supply (old server power supply I had laying around). -

Tip: this was somewhat mentioned here in the thread, but you can use at least a 50 foot modified network cable to run this with the head very far from the actual radio. For example, I'm using this in my home, I have an antenna on the roof that comes down with a 50 foot lmr400 to a polyphaser attached to service ground and then into the basement. I have the business end of the radio connected to the end of that antenna lead right as soon as it comes into the basement, then the 50' modified network cable running across the basement up into my office where the head unit is. Power to the radio is running off a 900 watt, 12v server power supply (KG-1000g shows 12.34v upon startup)...that's controlled by a wifi outlet to turn on/off the power supply remotely without having to go down into the basement. -
Is it possible to transmit in frequency mode on the GM-30 or UV-5X radio...and I mean transmitting in GMRS frequencies? On mine they just beep and no red LED like other radio's (or when in channel mode). I wonder if I have something set wrong as the manual's seem to indicate it's possible.

Confusing myself on how to connect to a repeater
htims05 replied to htims05's question in Technical Discussion
Yeah my first entry into GMRS was the KG-805G that worked great compared to the bubble packs - primarily used it for kids to roam the neighborhood - repeaters expanded that as they got a little older....now the 935 is kinda acting as a base, gives me the option to monitor a normal simplex GMRS channel for the kids and then if they switch to a repeater I'll hear them too. Currently wired it up out the window to a J-pole sitting on the front porch and so far it's getting great reception...I'll be curious to see how it does when I put it up 20ft. The 2 channel receive and the NOAA alerts is what did it for me. I'm on the east coast -

Yep - I'm on the right channel...screen changes to 467 when I hit the PTT -
Confusing myself on how to connect to a repeater
htims05 replied to htims05's question in Technical Discussion
Thanks! KG-935G. I know how to do the programing as I've used other repeaters (positive contact with a person)...just they had the same tone on both RX/TX. -
I've connected to multiple repeaters before - but they all have the same tone on RX/TX. I'm now looking to connect to one I see here on mygmrs and it lists the following: Output: 462.650 MHz No Tone Input:467.650 MHz 141.3 Hz On my radio in the settings I have a TX-CTSS and a RX-CTSS where I set the tone. Additionally the radio shows that it'll transmit on 462.650 but the repeater lists that as the output freq - so that's why I'm getting confused - on my radio is the TX-CTSS or the RX-CTSS the one without a tone set? I think I'm confusing myself with the radio's transmit freq vs that being the same as the output freq shown on the repeater (seems like that should be the input??)....

I have a few HT's and local repeaters that I have access to. I'm toying with the idea of setting up my own repeater at my house mainly because it would be "mine" and for the educational purpose. I'm wondering what's the cheapest way to get a repeater up and running at my home? My thought would be I could put an antenna (or 2) in my attic - I could put them outside on a lower roof but I don't think I can ground it adequately (hence the reason for just putting it in the attic), the actual repeater being two base units running a max of 50w. Is there any RF exposure issue to be concerned with at GMRS freq's at 50w? Now I live in an urban area where there are hills, not mountains and simplex to simplex with a KG-805 can get about a mile or two - two if I'm outside. I don't have the ability to erect a large antenna tower...and in reality even if I mounted an antenna outside on the highest point of the roof I couldn't get above the tree line - that's at least another 20-30 feet above the roof of my 2story house. Thoughts - is the cost to do this coupled with the expected performance going to outweigh the learning/fun aspect?

yeah I'm between that one and the one I posted. How did you run the cable to your location? I don't think I can run through walls without buying extra equipment...I might be able to go out the gable and hide it in the vinyl siding down to my office. Where'd you get your LMR400 from?

First I'm a Noob with my GMRS License..... I use a couple GMRS HT's - KG-805G as well as KG-935G. We primarily use them to keep in contact with my kids as they roam about the neighborhood, for the most part we can go simplex to simplex on the 5W of the 805's...however if I'm sitting at my office desk which has 2 displays connected to my computer, multiple wireless connections (blue tooth as well as the internet router), I sometimes do not pickup the transmissions from the remote HT's. We also have access to a open repeater that we use for the farther distances in the neighborhood or town for that matter. I was thinking of putting up something in the attic which would give me about 30 feet of elevation, or simply running an antenna out the window that I'm looking out which goes to the covered front porch. I've been looking at https://n9taxlabs.com/shop/ols/products/dual-band-murs-gmrs-slim-jim-with-10-or-16-foot-cable for just putting it outside the window. Or https://www.jpole-antenna.com/shop/uhf-440-470-mhz-slim-jim-antenna/ for up in the attic, But routing cable from the attic to my office could be a challenge and would likely require 100ft or so. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.

Random sound (static?) at the end of repeater transmission
htims05 replied to htims05's topic in General Discussion
Correct - It's not a low battery on my 805's - they are brand new and just pulled of the charger. -
I'm new to GMRS - have my license and been reading a lot. Using a KG-805G to hit a local repeater...used it the other day with no issues and made contact with someone 20 or so miles away. I go to use it again today with my family as we are out and about and after releasing the PTT button there's this static like beeping...and apparently the other KG-805G is hearing it as well (along with my transmission). What is this - is it that for some reason we are getting interference today (sunny clear day today vs cloudy the other - if that matters). Seems to be after every PTT we do, my radio or the others. I didn't hear it at all the last time. Here's an audio file of it - https://drive.google.com/file/d/11ogM7aOwQTOOYh4GdQVKxK_FfOiBmzZF/view?usp=sharing
