Hi folks, I have two Radioddity 5 watt GMRS HTs. They were acting fine, until I tried to add a DIY channel to the memory (right after the 8 repeater channels. Now the CTCSS/DCS codes "disappeared", so I had to re-enter them to hit the repeaters. I also notice that the display no longer shows 467.XXX while transmitting to the repeater, it just shows the receive frequency 462.XXX instead. Should I just delete these channel memories, or should I do a factory reset? Any advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about antenna grounding. But I do know that copper J-poles and roll-up J-poles do not need a ground.

Sounds very cool. Good luck getting everything cabled together. 25 watts pushed through a roof antenna should give you very good range.

You could also try this copper J-pole antenna tuned to GMRS frequencies. https://www.jpole-antenna.com/shop/462-mhz-land-mobile-gmrs-j-pole-antenna/ You could clamp the J-pole to a piece of PVC pipe. Personally, I think this setup would be useful for a temporary mount that could be set up and taken down quickly and easily. I have columns on my front walkway, and I could bungee-cord this antenna clamped to a length of PVC pipe to the columns. You could raise the J-pole antenna up ten feet in the air, by using lengths of PVC pipe, joined together with PVC couplers. I have been trying to reach Michael, the site owner, for a week now, and he has not written back,. Hopefully nothing happened to him.

Thanks. I am in the suburbs outside of Sacramento. It's suburban terrain, with mostly flat ground, but some rolling hills, maybe 100-200 feet high. P.S.: I ran across this chart, which gives estimated ranges for different radio services and power levels. My application would be to try to reach my housemate, with each of us having these mobile radios and using magnet-mount antennas, for those times when cellular phone service is out. (Although I hear that you might get through by text message when voice is out of service). The distance between us could be 10-15 miles, so I realize it can be hit or miss. Thanks again.

Thanks for the thorough answer. My application would be mobile, not base, so I would be pushing 20-25 watts through a magnet mount antenna. I haven't gotten the radios yet. Have you gotten good results going mobile with these radios?

Thanks for the heads-up about the Anytone mobile radio. For the radio in your home, I know that KB9VBR Antennas sells a GMRS J-pole antenna. Unfortunately he has yet to respond to the emails I have sent him. But you could connect his copper J-pole antenna to a metal pole or PVC pipe, and have a good antenna that is easy to set up and take down.

Radioddity support is back in business. I got a reply from them early this morning. How do you like the DB20-G? 20 watts for $110 is pretty cheap. I was thinking of putting one in my car, putting a magnet mount antenna on the roof, plug it in to the cigarette lighter, and would be all set (I hope).

I emailed the owner of the repeater in Annapolis, Maryland, and he mentioned these two repeaters: 462.675 PL 141.3 462.700 PL 103.5

Hi folks, A friend of mine lives in northern Virginia, and will be getting her GMRS call sign on Monday or Tuesday. I have only found one repeater in Alexandria, Virginia, and it may be out of commission, as the owner's license has expired. If anyone knows anything about repeaters anywhere in the D.C. area, please post that information here. Thank you.

I have the Radioddity GM-30 handheld. I set up a repeater channel carefully: the receive frequency, shift positive, 5 MHZ offset, the PL tones on both transmit and receive. I can hear traffic coming from the repeater, but cannot transmit into it, There is supposed to be an icon that says "CT" (short for CTCSS) above the top line, but it isn't showing. I emailed tech support, so hopefully I will hear back from them later. But if anyone has any thoughts on this issue, please let me know. Thank you.
