No problem BoxCar - we're all the same family, parents and grown kids. I chose GMRS to give interoperability with FRS in case we have non-family volunteers, and range is not an issue on our acreage (although that would be a nice problem to have!).

I am new GMRS user hoping to equip my family prairie burn crew with better radios than FRS so we can coordinate better. Yelling over the crackling flames has really poor transmission characteristics, and tends to add too much excitement. First HTs were Radioddity GM-N1s, and then I spoiled myself with a pair of Wuoxun KG-905G. I appreciate the simplicity of the GM-N1s, but really prefer having a screen to confirm settings. Superhets are nice too.

Thanks from a new 905G owner and GMRS noob. I am a bit shocked by how little info is provided by the manufacturer and seller on how to run the software. I noticed under Edit > Optional Features there are two tabs. I understand the Option tab as a view of what we can change using the MENU button on the radio. However, the DTMF one is a bit of a mystery. The Google turned up a reference to telephone touch tones. Is this something at all useful to GMRS users, or is is a vestigial part of the programming software intended for a different application, or perhaps for non-US users?
