  1. Is it passable for MyGMRS to sponsor a "Unofficial travel channel" campaign? Or am I out on a lamb? Aid with the set up for a 3rd party to custom make widow decals with your personal Call sign and the channel your monitoring on the road and a small plug for MyGMRS.com site. This giving other travelers notice (1, your legal and licensed and how to identify yourself, 2, support the hobby. 3, aid and road assistance, safely, communication road and traffic conditions. Three basic goals. (not used by the driver as driving) don't forget the law agenst distracted driving. Or using VOX if driver is solo. Possible window decal and or magnetic decal one can only display when you desire. I can think of many good points and a few not so good point with this type of display. Ok MyGMRS tee-shirts are cool, but this could make a few buck for myGRMS.com I see a win-win situation here. Ok I have talked myself into this, I take 3 for the first order! Lets kick this arond some, express the pross and cons. See if there is an interest within the GMRS community. But please keep it civil.
  2. That radio is P25 computable. Will not work on GMRS. Many states are now using P25vII witch is digital ,encrypted, trunking system's. Legally the encryption section is removed from that radio when it was taken out of service. I think it is a all digital and analog system so it is possible to work with a authorized service people. But not with GMRS in my humble option. I'm guessing of a nice looking paper weight.
  3. Yes a engraved indent is nice to help hold/protect the nail polish from rubbing off over time.
  4. My not be very Technical., but always nice to know at a glace your radio volume. Well for a old guy like me nearly close up blind without reading glasses. This tip makes life easyer. White fingernail polishes, a sowing needle. The needles eyelet acts like a fountain pin reservoir. Less mess but stll might need two coats. Make sure to paint only the indent space, last a long time. Many times a radios that the volume knob turns to easy I put a small dot at the preferred volume like a dial point on the base of the radio. My brand new Wouxun-935G has a nice grad protecting from turning so easly, it is very restricted/ friction to keep accidentally turning. (witch is a good thing). Hope someone finds this tip usefully. 5. I picked up a Zip-Tenna with limiter use right now. But from what i have found for now any way weather band it makes a big difference. I find anything with multi function worth looking into. Yes it serves as a passive ground plane, as well as a safety device so not to loos the radio. Kind of pricey, compared to .50 peace of copper. It has a interdating design and looks and feel built to last. More updates as I get to using it more.
  6. I know this form a communication is fraught with miss communication and understandings. Too many time putting good people at odds. Sill the benefits can and should out way the issues that come up. Thaks all. we are all in the boat together.
  7. You mean like the one I am using? Sorry i don't mean to deceive anyone. One buy one am going through my installation for a set up that is optimal performance and longevity. I say do it right once and save the frustration to do it over later. Two install guidelines. 1, this will more than likely not be the last/only radio for this my primary mode of transportation. 2. As well this SUV will be upgraded in 3 or 4 more years. I know 3 watts might not make that much difference in the big picture. But it cant hurt and one will not know unless you try. As I said 3 watts difference in my wires Toyota to my SUV both using 12v dash lights plug. Good chance going direct i could get close to the radios advertised output of 15 watts. Now it's out-put is 10.1 watts. I will update later and see any increase.
  8. Many years ago my work place place a Vietnamese refugee (boat People) to me to supervise, let say i learned a lot form Min van Tran. More to this topic Chinee, Taiwan or Vietnam all have been producing electronics for many years. A good amount of the are American design but built in these countries. Min van Tran told me American design was good, Chinees was crap. Built cheap so the poor of there country could afford them. Back them no American design but built over there was never available to the common man. Now today much of the same can be said with one caveat, There still are a few American made and designs the they could are made over seas cheaper but the over seas. What is happening is once they make it for say Midland Inc. some one illegibly steels the design but cheapens. Now we have what I call "knock offs" not all knock offs are junk but the chances are good they will not last. In short there is no need for a blanket statement of "All chines radios are junk". In my humble opinion.
  9. What your opinion of a real antenna?
  10. WoW, thanks so much. countless hours in the past 3 days with no luck. This looks very darn closes. Now i will try to get some dimensions of this Tamiya (mini) plug with a 14awg pig-tail wire. eather way I will get several. Just hated to morphydite the ends, now i can run power and use factory ends so to use other Midland radios. My SUV cigarette lighter output was effecting radio out-put. SUV Antenna out put was around 10 watts. I wires car it was closer to 14 wats. So it had to be under wire size within the SUV. Truth be told this plug (if it works) is rated for use on a 7.2 v 3600 mAh battery. It is under rated to the MXT 275. Thanks again. wayoverthere and I love MyGMRS.com Amazon.com- 4Pairs Tamiya Mini Tamiya Plug Male Female Connector Adapter Cable 14awg 15cm for RC Car Lipo Battery Airsoft Gun.url
  11. With such a nice set up you will have it is kind of sad you cant get that outside and up in the air more. But I understand many are not a fan of antennas sticking everywhere. Many Home owners organizations and city regulation (or wife's) will not allow outside antenna. But most of all 20 to 40 W output need to be a fair amount of distance from family members. More so if you transmitting a lot. One might research 460 MHz at 40 watts safe distance for humans. Good luck. most of all be safe.
  12. MXT275 running a direct line to battery in the SUV. any one know if there is a Molex type connector to match the power cord connection pig tail for this radio? One can see one connector is round the the other is square. The square pin is 4.09 mm wide. Looking on line have found nothing to work, It appears i will have to change out all the ends so if i can use the micomoble with the stock 12v plug (for times if I transfer to another vehicle), and use my direct 12v feed from my battery when in my SUV using the direct power feed line. I can get 5 sets Molex 2 pin from amazon (cheaper than butchering a Midland cord for just the end plug) . change all then ends for a servable working platform. But would be nice to have other standard connectors for any easy changeout in the future.
  13. Thanks everyone, I was sure it would be nominal gain to remove excess cable. After more recherche found this cable calculator. Was surprised, AS I see it I would gain about 1 more watt by removing 4 feet. interesting, https://www.qsl.net/co8tw/Coax_Calculator.htm
  14. New to GMRS, finishing my installation in my SUV. I have a mag mount up top, entering through back passenger door. The question is, is there any benefit to cutting Coax so not to have all the extra cable hidden away. With a 6db gain antenna using RG58U/A cable, will cuting the extra 4 or 5 feet of coax improve my performance? Or just keep it intact for the next mobile set up?
