I want to second the recommendations for the Kenwood TK8180(H) radios. You can get the remote head mounting kit for them too. I have found them to be very rugged, easy to program, and very clear audio for both TX and RX. I have used them for off-road and travel. Brackets, cords, and mics are still readily available. my .02
