That is true of the midland accessories as well. The pin spacing of midlands is different from the Kenwood.

It should work fine on your radio. Many of the Chinese radios have copied the Kenwood “K” plug specifications. I’ve used the same speaker microphones and programming cables with that plug type on the few Chinese radios and the large collection of Kenwood radios I have. -

Welcome, and yes, GMRS is great for use in the woods, even though UHF and pine needles do not necessarily mix well together. I am further north in WA State, but still manage a mile or so in the woods with handhelds, but also carry Motorola 1 Watt DTR410's as some places in my area, everyone is using FRS/GMRS. Welcome again.
