That is not how I read it, it reads like there are 2 firmware versions the USB-C model could ship with, otherwise there would be no need to them to updated it before shipping. I have the updated USB-C version and on the repeater I've been reported as quite by others.

 

I would contact Midland for clarification. I only passed along what they told me.

Received that as well. Very interested as I'm leaning toward the MXT275 but want to see if this is more than just the extra power. Looking forward to some hands on reviews.

You'd be better off swapping the stud mount for a nmo mount. If your cable has a pl239 going to stud mount you can get a nmo that fits it. Otherwise you'll have to cut and splice an nmo onto the end or run a new cable.

I've definitely been looking into NMO options. I found a 3/8" NMO on a youtube that *should* work. I also found the MFJ-1414, which is a 3/8-24 that can be trimmed for GMRS frequencies.

Me to Midland in email: Can you verify that the MXT275 is in fact wide and narrow band as stated above [in the previous email]? I can not find any documentation on that, and it is not referenced in the user manual.

Midland reply: The MXT275 was updated to wide/narrow band. The MXT275 with the USB-C on the front is the updated wide/narrow band . The older USB-A model is Narrow band only. We are sorry for any confusion.

It is not user-selectable on the MXT275, so yes it is preprogrammed. All MXT275 channels have been preprogrammed narrow band. We do have a firmware update for the MXT275 with USB-C that makes the repeater channels wide band. Unfortunately, these can not be updated in the field. If the order is brought to us, Lanny or I can make sure a particular order is updated before shipment. They are coming from the factory with this firmware loaded, but what is currently being sold has not been updated.

The MXT500, MXT275  is both wide and narrow band.

[Stud mount GMRS antenna?]

Hello, just got my GMRS license and am looking at getting a mobile setup (have a UV-9G). I have an aluminum F-150 so a mag mount is out. I use a Breedlove bed mount for my 3/8-24 2m  antenna. Can someone recommend a GMRS specific antenna with a stud mount, or should I just look for a generic 440 antenna? Thanks.
