  1. This is perfect.....thanks so much for all the info and the links to these products!!!
2. Looking for drill free options to mount an antenna on a aluminum body truck. If anyone found anything that worked well and would not mind sharing options/pics of the set up I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
  3. I am pretty new to GMRS and have been learning a lot. I have a KG 935 HT. I have set it up & am using it with local repeaters along with simplex use. I understand the GMRS frequencies/channels & repeater frequencies/channels. In reading the user manual my radio specs allow TX on GMRS frequencies. I also see it allows RX on 400-470MHz UHF & RX on 136-174MHz VHF. Can someone please explain these frequencies/ranges. I understand that I can only listen but are these frequencies for my local area in case of emergencies/storm information etc... or all over in any area? Thanks!
  4. Thanks for your response. After reading & watching videos I got it and you are correct not hard at all! I have the KG 935 and I was hesitant on getting it because I thought it may be to much radio for me (being new to GMRS) but I'm so happy I got it. I find it pretty easy to use. Great info & helpful people on this forum..... Thanks again!
  5. I have a 2017 Ford F350 Thanks!
  6. Good morning! Getting the kg 1000 for my truck. Wanted to see if others with this set up can share how how they mounted the radio/faceplate. I’m trying to stay away from drilling a bracket to mount it but if I have to then so be it. As always THANKS… this forum has been so helpful!
  7. Thanks for the info. I will keep you posted on my antenna choice & results.
  8. I’m about 10 miles from it. I can hear them talking but they can’t hear me until I get closer. No mountains but we are populated.Lots of houses between. I’m going to look into a good antenna for my base station. I rather not have it on the roof but mounted in my attic. I know it will be better on the roof but no way am I attempting that! Thanks again to everyone for all the information posted…much appreciated!
  9. I will definitely look into a good antenna for sure and thanks for the link on Zello!
  10. Currently I only have a HT. I can’t hit the repeater closest to me from my home. I have no issues making contact once I get in range. I will eventually be getting a base & mobile set up. I’m looking at the KG-1000. Will a radio such as that get me to that repeater? Also, someone mentioned to join zello. Can someone please explain that? Thanks in advance!
  11. Thanks for that thorough explanation. Seeing it laid out like that really helped me understand the breakdown of the channels!
  12. Thanks for the help explaining. This is something I’m gonna eventually want to do since I like the idea of grouping my most used channels together per state/area.
  13. I am looking into a mobile gmrs radio the KG 1000 which I did not purchase yet. (I am still researching what antenna will be the best for it and what else I need for the set up.) Yes, I see repeaters on the same frequency. So one can just plug in the RX/TX frequency for example repeater channel 15 and make how ever many repeater channel 15 one needs?
  14. I see GMRS radios say they have 400 or more custom channels. Can someone please explain custom channels. If there are only 22 channels and 8 repeater channels is that one group of channels 30/400? Then another group of 30 can be programmed in up to 400 total channels. I have never programmed a radio except for using the radio keypad to put in tones for repeaters which I just learned. (I don’t think that counts as programming lol) I’m new to this but I am thinking how I can use this when we travel in our RV. It would be fun to program in open repeaters for each state we travel through and be able to listen/talk along with having channels for the friends/group we are with. Thanks in advance!
  15. Glad it helped you out! I have a Wouxun also. Did you find the 935 to be beginner friendly? I am currently researching a mobile set up. I keep reading on the forum to help me learn.
  16. Ok awesome this helps for sure! I will try to input this tonight. As I was scrolling through my menu options I did see the TX/DCS option. Now I understand where to input these codes and if there is frs chatter I can enter the RX/DCS code to eliminate that. Thanks!!
  17. I don’t have a cable or software yet. I am just using my radio keypad. So when I go to menu on my radio keypad I am to select tx/dcs for codes that use DLP/DCS? I just want to make sure I’m entering this correctly. Thanks for clearing up DLP/DCS much appreciated!
  18. Can someone please tell me the difference in a repeater when I see the tones/PL listed as a number with Hz after it and some listed as a number and DPL after it. When I program my radio with a PL that has a Hz after it I use Tx/ctc in the menu to do that. If the PL has a number and DPL after it what would I use to program my radio for Tx I am new to this and appreciate the help Thanks!
  19. I really appreciate all the help and information you guys gave me! I am just getting into GMRS so I have a lot to learn and helpful people like you make it easier! Thanks drk1970 I will send request!
  20. This is exciting thank you for answering me!
  21. I’m a new member and just recently got my GMRS license. I understand how repeaters work but my questions are: 1. If the repeater says OPEN SYSTEM do you need permission to use it? I see a tab that says request access even though both the input and output tones are shown. 2. How far can a GMRS 5W HT radio go to hit a repeater? 3. Just to be sure, I would need to input both tones to be able to hear and receive communication? Thanks in advance for your help!
