  1. I have a couple antenna's on the roof of the truck, both Tram antenna's.  One is a dual band 70/2m (BR-179) the other is for a scanner but both are very similar in design. They are on NMO mounts in the roof and I was thinking of adding springs as they hit low hanging branches and such and I am concerned about pulling the mount out of the roof metal.  From what I can find the dual band will need to be re-tuned, has anyone had any luck adding springs?   Since in NMO mounts maybe just go with a different style antenna?

    Any suggestions welcomed

  2. Same radio here,  I have the RAM ball mounts left over from a motorcycle handlebar project... they make all kinds https://rammount.com/pages/components

Some folks used a cup holder mount.  Mine is in a 22 Chev PU.   Used the KG 1000+ flat plate and mounted directly to one ball head.  Installed a second head on the console with a arm that swivels to any position you like.   I'm sure there are some knock-offs now.  I'd post a picture but the truck is in the shop.

Something on my to-do is to add an RJ-45 coupler just behind the head where I can unplug the cable running to the base under the seat.

  3. Just getting into this new hobby!  Pretty exciting reading through the post here.  I have a couple UV-9G's and a DB-25G mobile unit,  Working on configuring different repeaters that I will be near in my travels.

Can't wait to connect with others and learn more about GMRS!

  4. Hi,  new member here also, I've programmed a couple repeaters near me that show TX and RX tones are needed however, the only way I could open/connect with one was to remove the RX tone. (Could hear the squelch(?) response from the repeater)  Why is this? Does the RX tone mute the repeater response.

    Thanks
