  1. WRUU, interesting I'll try doing just that using the software this evening and see what happens. Maybe it's an issue with trying to program on the radio. Edit: thanks!
  2. What does "scan receiving channel" mean? And "Only the receiving frequency is allowed to be set, and the transmitting frequency is forbidden."? That's the unclear part (to me). Does that mean these channels are receiving only and will not allow transmitting? Because I can transmit on these channels.. until I tried to change the frequency on one of them then I was not able to transmit anymore on that channel. That's the quirky part. Unless I'm just missing something haha.
  3. WRUU you are right, the frequency (462.5625) I was trying to input was different than the factory-programmed frequency for the DIY channel I selected. In the case of trying to set up this particular channel I tried doing the programming on the radio by putting it into frequency mode, inputting the frequency, ctcss, etc.. deleting channel 31 or whatever I selected using the DEL-CH menu option (Menu no. 28) and then storing it using MEM-CH (Menu no. 27). I also have and have used the Baofeng UV-9G programming software. Anyways, when I returned to Channel mode the parameters I just set for channel 31 were there but the radio would not key up (it would tx before on the frequency it was set to from the factory). This seems like a quirky/unclear thing with this radio, the manual is not very clear about the intention of channels 31-116, are they intended to be somewhat customizable repeater channels or are they intended to be "scanner channels" where tx is not allowed. Or both?
  4. Understood, thanks for the replies. Here's one more thing I had trouble with, on one of the "DIY" channels i.e. DIY2 or something I tried to program a simple simplex channel, 462.5625 (gmrs channel 1) with ctcss codes, is this even possible? Reason I ask is after I got it set up, I tried to transmit and the radio would not key up, push the PTT button and nothing, the button was dead. I even returned the frequency and other parameters to what they originally were on DIY2 and the radio still wouldn't key up. Seems like trying to change parameters on the DIY channel resulted in a dead channel. I was trying to do this to use to use with my son's walkie talkie so I can leave the GMRS1 channel free of ctcss codes.
  5. Hello all, has anyone had this issue or know how to fix this or know what I'm missing? On my UV-9G if I go to the Offset menu selection on any channel it shows 000.000 and if I change it to say 005.000 save and exit the menu if I go back it will be 000.000 again. Also despite the menu saying 000.000 any channel aside from 1-22 has a +5.000 offset that I can't change and the display shows the +- icon. Any help appreciated.
