  1. As far as anyone knows does the BTECH GMRS-50V2 have SOC or Superhetrodyne chip?
  2. If he has a 50x1 it would be great to pop them both open to see if the "radio board" has been modified in the 50v2 like their website states it has: "[UPGRADED] The GMRS-50V2 is major upgrade from the previous generation GMRS-50X1. New features include a full redesigned radio board."
  3. I bought a Btech GMRS-50V2 recently and am trying to get a phone number at Btech in South Dakota that I can talk to a live support person. So far I have only been able to find online fill out forms, of which I did fill out one and stated the following issues: Several issues: 1. The radio seems to heat up rather quickly, even on medium power. 2. The cooling fan is extremely loud. 3. The microphone seems live all the time because it is picking up sounds near the mic, which is indicated in the on screen Mic section, numbers vary even when not transmitting. 4. Upon using a swr/power meter, I find that the powers of 5,20,50 Watts are not showing this in the meter on all frequencies, much less output power is showing. I got an automated response almost immediately of which the first line of the email stated: "Send a video of the setup and each issue". They have got to be kidding me! Can't even get a number to talk about this. I will probably be sending this back to Baofang Tech via Amazon. Disappointed in this whole thing.

  5. Miklor did a review and their test was 48.2 watts: Review BTech GMRS-50V2 Mobile - Miklor It seems like Miklor tests are generally higher than others.
  6. Hmmmm..... Don't know what what I'm doing wrong..... I'm hitting 46.4 to 50.8 watts on all high channels.... on a ground plane.... in the attic..... with LMR400 coax.... able to talk good and clear on all high channels and repeaters..... Checked two of the three GMRS-50-V2 units I have, and both get the same watts, etc! I guess I'll have to check the third mobile unit when it gets back, just to be sure..... But, so far, I think they're great. I also have two GMRS-V2 units, and have checked them both for wattage out...... Hmmmm... both doing about 4.3 to 4.9 watts out...... Maybe...... I don't know for sure....just maybe..... all five units that I'm running are great radios that do what they say they'll do........ I'm happy with BTech GMRS-50V2 50 watt units (I have 3 units in use) and the handhelds GMRS-V2 (I have 2 units in sporatic... sometimes use). Anyway, TMO.
  7. I have the KG1000G plus and it's a fantastic radio. I am running it in the truck and as a base station. It's a superheterodyne radio. A quality unit that is comparatively expensive for what it does. But I also just ordered a Btech GMRS-50V2 to go in as my permanent base station radio because of a couple of features that I like about it. Number 1 is the quad watch feature for monitoring 4 channels simultaneously without scanning and Number 2 is the RJ45 to K1 splitter for the hand mic. I wanted that flexibility for recording nets and other things. So even though it's a system on a chip and supposedly inferior to the wouxun, for my needs as a base station it will work great. A repeater net friend has one and sounds great on it. He did have to turn up the mic gain on it out of the box.
  8. Anyone get their hands on this one yet? Looks like MyGMRS is the only distributor that I could find. It's not even on Btech's website. Curious if it's improved from the 50v1 other than allowing for more channels. Thanks. https://shop.mygmrs.com/products/btech-gmrs-50v2-50w-gmrs-radio Edit: Just realized I posted this in the review channel. I am searching for a review as this is not that. Mods please move if required.
  9. I am new to this and i have read so many different things. I am going to be installing a radio in my truck and not sure the best antenna to use. I live in Vermont so there is lots of trees and hills/mountains to deal with. Thinking about going with BTECH GMRS-50V2 and Midland MXTA25. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  10. I've tried programming it via CHIRP to add the "S" to the Skip column, and also toggling Scan to "no" in the menu, but it always reverts to "yes". Other than not programming in weather channels at all, is there any way to prevent this radio from stopping each time it hits a WX station? Thank you!
  11. Looking at the Shopping area of MY GMRS and saw two types of BTECH GMRS 50W radios shown. Anyone know of any changes? BTECH GMRS-50V2 50W GMRS Radio VS BTECH GMRS-50X1 50W GMRS Radio
  12. I'm researching new radios. Specifically, I'm looking for a 50W to use as either (and/or both) stationary and mobile. I was looking at the BTECH GMRS-50V2, 50W. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments? I appreciate any help you can provide.
  13. Hello! New GMRS user here, as I just recently discovered the service while researching HAM. Will eventually get HAM licensed also, but for now focusing on GMRS. I grew up in a CB family in the 70s and 80s and have had mobile CBs off and on over the years. Also used radios daily in my criminal justice career over the last 28 years. Had my GMRS license a month and have 2 UV-5RE8W hams and 2 GM-15 Pros. Have a GMRS-20v2, programming cable, Nagoya NMO magnet mount, and Midland MTXA26 arriving this week for my truck. Looking to also get a GMRS-50v2 or KG1000g plus in the near future. Already learned a lot from YouTube and looking forward to learning from this forum.
  14. Good afternoon...please forgive my ignorance -- total GMRS newbie! I got my programming cable and input the 67.0 Hz tone input using the "tone" mode. Hit the squelch quickly to see if I got a response back from the repeater...did not. Now I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or and really not making contact. I have a BTECH GMRS-50v2 base station with a Nagoya Mode NMO-200C antenna sitting at the highest point in my 2nd floor office, facing north. I live in Fawn Lake, so this should be fairly easy to reach the repeater. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Steve
  15. I just got a new BTech GMRS-50V2 and the radio is sending out a roger beep which I can't seem to find the option to turn off. I researched the manual that came with it, Looked for the option in chirp and also a google search turns up nothing about a menu option to turn this off. Anyone have a clue?
  16. I am new to GMRS and recently purchased two GMRS-PRO handhelds and a GMRS-50V2 in the truck. I was working through the 50-V2 programming software and opened the Menu Settings page. There are two fields Press PTT to Send and Release PTT to Send. Can someone please explain the purpose of these fields? I found nothing in the manual and a Google search send me back to the manual. Also, I would appreciate if you could recommend website(s)/YouTube channel(s) provides programming instructions for a novice. Thank You Mike WRYP302
  17. I am new to GMRS, and recently purchased two BTECH GMRS-PRO handhelds and the BTEC GMRS-50V2 for my truck. My question is on CTCSS & DCS tones. I have a basic idea of their purpose, but I noticed that it appears the RT Systems programming software is adding tones to the CTCSS (67.0 Hz) and DCS (23) fields. I noticed that the tones are present in the RT Systems default program (Tone Mode = None) and these tones were added when I downloaded the programming from the radio (the radio was programmed with the BTECH CPS software and CTCSS/DCS were set to OFF). I am saying it "appears" because the Tone Mode field = None. Would it be correct to assume that as long Tone Mode = None that any entries in the CTCSS & DCS fields are ignored? Thanks Mike WRYP302
  18. This is likely the same radio but with different firmware. https://www.miklor.com/COM/Review_GMRS-50V2.php https://www.miklor.com/COM/Review_50X2.php The problem with most of the cheaper Chinese radios is the receiver section. They get de-sensed easy in strong RF environments and the selectivity can be poor. Most radio users after a while will understand the receiver is what really counts. Given a choice between more power or a bullet proof receiver I would go with the better receiver.
  19. I am brand spanking new (still have the Friggin new guy smell) to GMRS and looking at the Wouxun KG-X20G Plus and BTech GMRS-50V2 for home/vehicle use and a pair of BTech GMRS-Pro's. I greatly appreciate these forums! Semper Fi
  20. The GMRS-50X1 is being discontinued by BTECH in favor of the GMRS-50V2 which succeeds it. The new "V2" lineup of BTECH radios has additional features like the multiple repeater channel ability mentioned above that the original series lack. We just sold out of our remaining GMRS-50X1 stock, so we will only carry the GMRS-50V2 from now on.
  21. I must be lucky since my BTECH GMRS-50V2 is showing over 50 watts simplex (channels 15 and 22) and over 45 watts on the repeater frequencies. SWR shows 1.18 on the simplex channels and 1.42 on the repeater channels. I have a YNIBST GMRS antenna with 50' LMR400 to a lightning arrester then another 10' RG58 to my radio. More importantly, I am reaching a repeater that is almost 25 miles away and have talked simplex ~20 miles away in 2 different (opposite) directions. All contacts report that I am coming in loud and clear. I am very happy with the performance of this radio. Hopefully time will prove that it's good for the long haul.
  22. On Btech's website now... and Amazon https://baofengtech.com/product/gmrs-50v2/ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BNLT88FD/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il?ie=UTF8&m=AA3MGRC7F9EI2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0BNLT88FD&linkCode=as2&tag=btek-20
  23. Or you could get it right here at MyGmrs.com. Affiliate link below ? https://shop.mygmrs.com/products/btech-gmrs-50v2-50w-gmrs-radio
  24. Yea I'm looking at this radio with a antannae for my Jeep. BTECH GMRS-50V2 50W 256 Fully Customizable Channels Mobile GMRS Two-Way Radio. Repeater Compatible https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNLT88FD?psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_ct_C4M6PYAPPTCYPVPQFQQS
  25. In all fairness, just about every 'Getting Started' or 'Attention' section of most radio manuals contain the same verbiage about smoke/odor, etc. We will see. I just ordered one. The price is right for a 50W unit. It does state that the board has been redesigned, I presume that is a good thing. [UPGRADED] The GMRS-50V2 is major upgrade from the previous generation GMRS-50X1. New features include a full redesigned radio board. All 256 channels are fully customizable, the ability to add or remove GMRS or NOAA channels quickly. PCB updates on the GMRS-50V2 include RJ45 audio output, improved audio filtering, constant 50W power output on GMRS We'll have to see how the @OffRoaderXreview goes once he gets his hands on one (if he doesn't already have one).
