WRTS781 Posted July 10 Report Posted July 10 (edited) Just found a Kenwood TKR-840 for a great deal (Sub 200). Is it worth it for a GMRS Repeater? Checking out the FCC grant for ALH30643110, it does say part 95, but not 95E.... Is it technicaly legal even though not specifically 95E? Its only 5 watts out so would have to run an external amp, plus get a duplexer yada yada... already have the software for it, so good deal or no? Edited July 10 by WRTS781 fat fingers Quote

Based on the number of non-Part 95E GMRS repeaters in use for the last ~10+ years and looking at the number of FCC enforcements for simply using a Part 90 repeater on GMRS in the last 10+ years (zero enforcements), also, NO Quote
WRTS781 Posted July 10 Author Report Posted July 10 Sorry, it is part 95, not just 90. I fixed that above. 12 minutes ago, OffRoaderX said: "Technically" ? No "Does it matter one little bit?" I stand by my last statement: It doesn't matter/the FCC, based on their enforcement record, does not care. 1 minute ago, WRTS781 said: Love the videos. I know.. Everyone does.. WRUE951 Posted Thursday at 01:09 PM Report Posted Thursday at 01:09 PM there is a guy here that runs one on on a 4800 Mtn Peak. Good repeater, gets out very well. As far as i know, its been running 5 years + and it gets pretty busy at times. . BTW.. My bet, 75% of GMRS repeaters are not Part 95.. SteveShannon 1 Quote
tweiss3 Posted Thursday at 05:19 PM Report Posted Thursday at 05:19 PM I have a handful of them for various uses/projects. Other than being rated for 5W, they do great, just spend some time and align it correctly, they can get sensitivity down to about -120db or better. The FCC approval occurred before Part 95E approvals were a thing, previously they just called it Part 95, so yes, its approved. Now, your amplifier won't be approved. SteveShannon 1 Quote
