A guy on one of the FB Groups for GMRS/FRS/MURS/CB posted:

"I'm thinking off throwing out a call on my MURS Radio to see if anyone is around to talk, what do y'all think?"

Besides the obvious reply about it being pretty much used for businesses for short distance comms. etc., my question back was, "what will you do for a callsign, given there are none for MURS; 'This is Cleanup on Aisle 9 monitoring, anyone around?'  "

Kinda what they/we do in the military to some extent at small unit level.

Most of my work in HF/VHF in the ASA was making sure no one could hear your radio or you couldn't hear anyone else's. That and DF'ing you to call in that airstrike or listening to find out what you were up to and countering it with force.  Swearing at Bird Colonels in Russian to get them to blow up on the radio is just a fun way to spend a few minutes!

That must have been fun. I was a section leader for AAVC7A1 which carried the Battalion staff COM element but that was when we had RT246's and 442's and changed over to SIGARS (SP)
