GMRS repeaters

I could also say: I am not sure what your point is, considering we don't know how crappy your "cheapest radio" is!? Nor anecdotally how close to the repeater your crappiest radio was compared to the OP's experience.

My point is that I'm not sure what channel 4 being interleaved between 18 and 19 has to do with hearing 'repeater' traffic on channel 4 (...allegedly).

My crappest radio is an Ali Express UV-5R that freaks out and breaks squelch seemingly at random. But I don't hear traffic from other channels than the one I'm listening to.

It is the difference between anecdotal experiences and a broad survey of activity to denote a possible occurrence.

Just because YOUR radios do not have this flaw; does not negate the possibility that the OP's radio has this flaw.

Using my rooftop Comet CX-333 I have heard repeater traffic on Channels 4 and 5 on some of my crappiest radios! They reside in a box now...

so they are saying the copper in a penny is worth 4.5 cents.. Hmmmmm.  what do you do now..  they are out of circulation.    I have a 5 gallon water bottle full of copper.

Maybe an all copper penny, but not those copper plated zinc blanks.

There's likely a whole lot of fuzzy math going on, because this stuff is done at scale and not one at a time, but doing some quick math on a 2.5% copper plated, 2.5 gram penny (the spec on the current ones), it's about 1.5-1.8 cents of copper at current fresh (ie: non scrap) copper prices. Once you add the zinc blanks, and what it costs to manufacture and distribute that penny, it could very easily be upwards of 4-5 cents. Not in copper value entirely, but in terms of what it takes to get that penny from the mint into the mason jar on your counter where it'll live the rest of its life 😂

Ah, we get to the point. Good! That's one of those things that one knows is theoretically possible that I at least had never known someone it's actually happened to with a modern radio. Who knows then, maybe OP's radio is totally busted. Or maybe someone's breaking the rules. Or maybe they're confused about what's actually repeater traffic...I don't think we ever actually got a conclusion to their story haha

I had a radio (briefly -- I sent it back for other reasons) that displayed the tower indicating "repeater" on any channel that had an offset programmed. Yours may be the same. If so, it would indicate that Channel 4 is incorrectly programmed with a transmit offset. There's really no technical reason you can't program an offset on any channel, and it would be pretty easy to make a mistake while programming the radio. You could try to talk to someone on Channel 4 and see if they can receive you. You can also double-check your settings using the menu. If you don't remember how to do that, read the manual again. If you programmed it using CPS or CHIRP, look at the file to be sure there's no offset. If there's no offset, then the radio is almost certainly defective.
