GMRSNetwork Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 I can see new licenses not being processed or manually entered into the database due to staff shortages, but why is an automated database shut down so no one can search? Takes no labor to leave it up and running. Makes no sense unless it is deliberate just to inconvenience people and prove some point about the shutdown. Thoughts? amaff and WRXL702 2 Quote
WRUE951 Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 still requires real human maintenance and logging. Also, the process of firing has begun. No telling how that is going to affect government operations, but in a nutshell, the Government is shut down. Quote
WRKC935 Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 Because "I" am in charge of it and that A -HOLE Trump shut down the government I refuse to leave it up and running because Trump sucks, Republicans suck, and GMRS sucks unless used by a liberal. I don't KNOW that's it, but it's a good a guess as anything else. It might be hosted 3rd party and the hosting company isn't sure if they will get paid, so they shut it off. It's the FCC database... not nuclear launch codes. Destro 1 Quote

This sort of thing ("we're going to shut down stuff that people like so they notice it, even stuff that it's actually more effort to stop doing than just leave online") happens with every government shutdown. Yeah, that's very true. Anyone bother to look if the Social Security Admin web site is working so you can see what your monthly payments will be when you retire? Guessing that is down too. They have shuttered the National Parks and several other things. Of course now the argument is they will not get their back pay when they return to work. It's all a dog an pony show with a side game of one upsmanship played in the same arena and the same time. And Shumer, Trump and a few others take turns playing PT Barnum. Quote
73blazer Posted October 10, 2025 Posted October 10, 2025 Last time they shut down NOAA weather online even though the actual forecasts were still being issued (via any NOAA weather radio), just not posted online. The shutdowns are a joke as nothing is really shutdown only the perception of a shutdown, except if your a gummit employee counting on a check that will not come and if they're like the 90% of 'mericans who live check to check with zero savings they're not gonna be able to make that Escalade lease payment. Just a small point. When they do return to work it’ll be like a supermarket with cleanups in every aisle. amaff 1 Quote

Yeah, but the rest of us benefit from that since those leases will be called back / repossessed. Leading to a number of nice used vehicles that we can afford since there will be a glut of them entering the used car market, driving the price down. Quote

If it is anything like the area I am in, then being listed in the FCC Data base on the FCC website means little to nothing. I recall when I had my first license (which I then cancelled), I made my first contact and then got told I was not on the my gmrs website, so how could the other person know for sure that I was licensed. This is a weird trend that I am noticing is extending to amateur radio, except you need a stellar out of this world profile on qrz, and I have no idea when or why this trend is happening. Quote
