KT 9900 gmrs mobile program cable

Question

Posted

I purchased a KT 9900 mobile radio that didn’t come with a programming cable. I purchased one that I thought would work QYT Programming Cable for KT-8900/KT-8900D/KT-980 Plus/KT-8900R. It didn’t. I next ordered BTECH PC04 FTDI USB Programming Cable, Genuine FTDI Chipset. That worked. Initially I thought it wasn’t going to connect due to comm port error. I found out it wanted comm 7. After making that selection everything loaded up. I wanted to share this for anyone else having problems programming this radio

Each time you plug it in it can create a differently numbered com port, especially if you’ve rebooted or if other apps have been used that interact with drivers to create virtual comm ports.  I see them ranging from com 3 to com 18 on my computer right now with gaps in between.

True. The first cable I tried wouldn’t recognize any port. I tried them all. The system said it was in port 3 but would not work when I clicked 3 on the software menu. After I tried it every port I Gave up

the new cable installed itself on com 7 and once I found that out everything worked
