Guest Steve Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Hi all. I am new to GMRS and attempting to navigate the FCC licensing process. I have been assigned my FRN but when I attempt to login and purchase my license I am getting an Invalid FRN/Password Please try again message. Is this possibly due to the recent govt shutdown and should I just wait and try a different day? Any insights are appreciated. Quote

I had trouble getting in. the other day, wouldn't accept my password. I reset to the exact password I had set and got in. I think their system is fooled out from the shut down Quote
Guest I have been having issues Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 I have been having issues also on the fcc site. I already had my frn number. But I didn't have a used name. I created a user name. Then I had to stumble around and associate my user name with my frn. Once all that was done I did an application for gmrs (ZA) license. I paid my fee with my cc. Now I have to find my License? Quote

The FCC no longer sends out printed GMRS or amateur radio licenses, so yes, you have to find it, but it’s not too hard to find, just overly complicated. For most people, when the license is issued the FCC will email them saying it’s issued. Then you log in to the link they send and download your official copy. Notarubicon has a YouTube video that explains the process. What’s your FRN? Quote
WSKJ518 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 I just went through the whole process and it took what seems like forever since the Government reopening. At first it was telling me my password was invalid for my FRN, but it was just an FCC system lag. It eventually showed up after about 24 hours. Then I applied for the license, and that took about 36 hours. I was able to log in to the ULS and see the license, but it still wasn't showing up in the search/database. When you log in to the ULS license manager, go to the left and click on 'Download Electronic Authorizations. Then, at the bottom of that screen move your Callsign to the right screen by clicking it on the left, and then selecting 'ADD'. Then in the bottom right corner, click download and it will come up so you can print it. You will get an email as soon as your Call Sign is assigned, so as soon as you see that you can go do the instructions above. I'm not sure if the FCC site has always been this slow and 'buggy', but it's been horrible at least for me. If the page won't load, go delete the cookies for that site in your browser. I've had to do all that a few times, and even ended up with TWO FRN's because I was impatient(oops). SteveShannon 1 Quote
LeoG Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 When I went for my license last year I got my FRN number, didn't have to associate a name to it and ended up with about 8 tabs open by the time I was done going through the process. I actually read the part 95 stuff they mentioned before I did my digital signature which I believe was 2 more open tabs (included in the 8). I believe I did mine on the weekend and it took til Tuesday before I got my email saying my license had been issued. I thought the process was overly complicated and kinda slow since most of it's automated. I also figured it was the weekend and nothing govt works on the weekends. So Monday it was received and process and Tuesday got sent out. It was a PITA but went smoothly. It should really be a one or two page thing and not have to have you traipsing all over the internet for a simple single point license. WSKJ518 1 Quote
GreggInFL Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Anyone capable of navigating the site to receive a GMRS license should automatically qualify for a HAM ticket. amaff, WRTC928 and SteveShannon 3 Quote

People keep saying this, but every time I've been on the FCC site to renew it's been like 5 while minutes and done. Only time it was longer was when I was looking into a waiver to get my expired callsign back. Quick call on the 1-800 number and helpful perosn on the phone said don't bother, get a new license. Which I did 5 minutes later. Quote
Guest Kshaw Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 I just went through this process and it took a few days plus two calls to customer support. I received two emails that explain how to create a user account and then attach your FRN account to it. You have to do that before you can send payment. I was told that it takes up to 3 days for the FCC to process the license and that you would receive an email once everything is complete. I can attach the email that I received if anyone needs it.
