Problem using GM-30 programming software

Question

Posted

I received my programming cable from Radioddity today.  Cable information is: Model: PC002; SKU: 715-RP-PC002; IC: CH340C; Length: 100cm.  I have checked all my connections and communication port settings.  Device manager shows port 8.  I put port 8 into the software comm port box, but the software returns the message: "Please check all connections and communication port settings". My windows 11 Laptop (bought early this year) is up to date on all software updates. I do not know what else to do.  I have followed all the suggestions about turning off/on systems, etc.  Nothing seems to allow the laptop to communicate with the Radioddity GM-30 radio for programming it. Has anyone encountered this problem or have any suggestions I can pursue?

Did you install the driver for the cable?
Does the virtual com port appear when you plug in the cable and go away when you unplug the cable? Have you tried any of the other com ports that appear in the list?

For some radios the plug on the radio end doesn’t fit well and must be push in extra hard.  That has stymied several people.

I helped someone recently that had that radio and cable. I was able to get it to work on my computer, then he was able to get it to work on his after I read it. It is finicky with the com port settings.

Usually it is the USB Cable that is finicky...

Now that Chirp supports this radio, it's a different ballgame!

You didn't say which GM-30 you have. If it is the GM-30 Pro, go into the menu on the radio, to Wireless CPS, select it and set to off. There is just one line abouit the setting, buried IIRC on the next to last page. I'm using the OEM CPS downloaded from Radioddity. I have not tried it with Chirp, and I hate the Bluetooth app.

I have 3 cables that work with the GM-30 Pro: a Baofeng that came with an AR-5RM, a Wouxun red cable that came with a KG-9UV Mate, and an RT Systems USB-K4Y cable.
