Small foot-print (like a UV-5R) I purchased one on sale for my 8 year old granddaughter. I'll give it to her this weekend for her birthday. I programmed some stuff into it yesterday and charged it up after testing it. I got it because it is fairly simple to use, small-ish, has a good IP rating, USB-C chargeable, and seems to have a good build quality. I have several Wouxun GMRS radios and am happy with them all. Her dad and I are licensed so she is covered as far as that goes. We will see how it works out. WRUQ357, SteveShannon and WRUU653 3 Quote

We gave her the KG-S65G and she loved it. One of the first things she did was get into the menu. I showed her how to lock the keypad and showed her that I keep my radio keypad locked so I don't make unwanted changes. When we left we talked to her all the way to our house. She can hit a private repeater we use that is almost four miles from her house that allows us to talk house to house easily. We can talk simplex if we stand outside on one foot with our tongues sticking out. It was fun to see her excitement. She also really liked the desk stand from Etsy - Black Lodge Creative (he is a member here). RoadApple, Elmo777, WRUU653 and 2 others 4 1 Quote
WRHS218 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I got a text from my daughter early one morning last week telling me to turn on my radio. My granddaughter wished me Happy Birthday via her new radio before she went to school. It doesn't get any better than that. I saw her Saturday night and she told me she took her radio when she and her family went down the mountain to the city. She asked me if we could talk that far which led to a conversation about radio stuff. She is pretty smart for an 8 year old. wrci350, SteveShannon, WRUU653 and 1 other 3 1 Quote
