oldpenguine Posted Monday at 10:35 PM Posted Monday at 10:35 PM I am trying to communicate on repeater 462.600. I have a btech uv 82 hp. my transmit freq is set to 467.600. receive freq set to 462.600. CTS off DCS off offset 000. no joy. I can hear people but they can not hear me. any suggestions Quote
OffRoaderX Posted Monday at 10:40 PM Posted Monday at 10:40 PM If they can't hear you, then there are only a few of possibilities: Radio is not transmitting Transmit freq. is wrong Transmit tone is wrong You are out of range of the repeater - just because you can hear it does not mean it can hear you. As you know, you don’t need either to receive from the repeater. WRHS218 1 Quote
oldpenguine Posted Tuesday at 02:06 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 02:06 PM thank you all for the information. Let me re-phrase the question. Has anyone successfully communicated on 462.600? If so, what Tx freq, Rx freq, DCS, CTCSS, and offset was used. If I have them all correct, then I am outside of range. I just want to be sure I am set up correctly. thank you Quote

Your mistake is in not researching the specific CTCSS or DCS for the repeater you’re attempting to use. There is no specific CTCSS or DTCSS (same thing as DCS) used in conjunction with all repeaters on 462.600 MHz. WRHS218 1 Quote
oldpenguine Posted Tuesday at 02:57 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 02:57 PM where do i get the CTCSS info? Quote
SteveShannon Posted Tuesday at 03:00 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:00 PM Just now, oldpenguine said: where do i get the CTCSS info? At the top of this page is a menu choice that says Repeaters. Click on it and look up the repeaters for your area. Or introduce yourself to us and tell us where you want to use a repeater and someone will probably help. amaff 1 Quote

There's almost 600 repeaters listed, plus who knows how many that aren't on MyGMRS, just on 462.600. You'll need to narrow it down a bit ... Quote
oldpenguine Posted Tuesday at 05:59 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 05:59 PM I live in Plano Texas a suburb of Dallas. I looked in repeaterbook.com but could not find anything for 462.600. I searched GMRS repeaters and found volumes of information but cannot find anything about what tones to use. I feel like a lost dog in a snowstorm. Walking for hours and winding up in the same spot. Thank you all for any help you can provide. Quote

Usually it's pretty straight forward. Sometimes the information is published plainly (generally, "open" repeaters), other times they ask that you request access and they'll send you the details. The only one I'm seeing near Plano that MIGHT work (it's a ways away) is this one, on 625. Looks like you can request access for the info. "Open" repeaters will usually have info like this: Quote
amaff Posted Tuesday at 06:33 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:33 PM I guess my question is, how did you arrive at 462.600? Is there a repeater out there that you're hearing on that frequency? If so, it may just not be listed (at least, not on MyGMRS). Your radio may have a tone scanner function that you can use to listen for the output tone, and hope that it's using the same tone for both input and output (but we won't know without knowing what radio you've got). But given that I'm not seeing anything on here near you on that frequency, or on RepeaterBook, that may be your answer as to whether or not they want random people hopping on. Quote
oldpenguine Posted Tuesday at 08:33 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 08:33 PM I was scanning my btech uv82-hp and received signal on 462.600. I am going to drop this pursuit and start chasing something simple like bigfoot. Thanks everyone for their help. Quote

Did you ever hear any call signs? Are the transmissions still continuing? GMRS repeaters can cover a large radius if their antenna is located at a high elevation. Sometimes they’re placed on towers that were built for other purposes. Best wishes for your future pursuits, but don’t give up on GMRS so soon. Once it clicks for you you’ll feel better. amaff 1 Quote
