Question

Posted

I have the V-1 and a BAOFENG UV-5r. The USB to radio cable should be the same for both. I have the BAOFENG branded cable, and programming the 5r is just fine thru CHIRP. The problem is when I connect up my V-1, CHIRP says I didn’t select the correct model. Checked everything, even changed ports, but it still comes up with the same error msg......Thoughts? Yes, I made sure I selected BTECH and V1 in the drop downs.

If you are using CHIRP with different radios they each will usually have a different COM Port.  Try changing the COM Port which is part the connection process.  When you select RADIO, then Download From Radio, a small window pops up asking you to provide the manufacture and model of the radio but also the COM Port.  The first time it happened to me it drove me nuts trying to figure it out.

I bought the programming software for my GMRS-V1 from RT Systems. I already had the cable (same as  UV-5r). I have been very satisfied with all of the products that I purchased from RT Systems. Try it,you'll like it.

For future reference of others, if the cable isn't changing, the COM port does not change. The COM port is tied to the chip in the cable and not the radio.
