Guest scubadude85 Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 I am currently in the process of getting my FRN to get my license. I am looking for information on part 95 and well all the letter designations mean as well, for example, 95A all to way up too 95M. Are only part 95 radios used or car you use part 96 and part 97 as well. If I can get some recommendations on new equipment as well though be great. Quote
Lscott Posted May 6, 2020 Report Posted May 6, 2020 To be strictly legal the equipment must be Part 95 certified. Older equipment might be listed as Part 95 while newer equipment would be Part 95A. This should be a good reference for Part 95. It covers several of the radio services, specially GMRS, FRS and CB. https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CFR-2009-title47-vol5/pdf/CFR-2009-title47-vol5-part95.pdf Quote
scubadude85 Posted May 7, 2020 Report Posted May 7, 2020 Thank you for this help a lot. I guess the Icom IC-F6021 will not work then. Quote

GMRS regulations were updated in 2017 and are now Part 95 Subpart E The full text of Part95E is available here. To be legal on GMRS, radios must have been type accepted or certified for: Part-95, Part-95A or Part-95E The icom IC-F6021 is Part-90 certified, but not certified for GMRS. However, it will operate on GMRS frequencies. There have been several discussions about using Part-90 radios, and other "ham" or Part-15 certified radios on GMRS. Many people do this, many don't Search through the threads and you can read the various opinions. kipandlee 1 Quote
