Anytone at-778uv Receiving Problems

TKosky

Question

I picked up a Anytone at-778uv around Christmas for my FJ Cruiser. Had a friend of mine do the initial programming and set up because i did not have a laptop. now i have a laptop and have been adding 2m and 70cm repeaters into the radio. iv'e ran into a problem where sometimes I can hit the repeaters but don't hear anything back, even with the SQ open. (I know i hit it because we have another vehicle listening)  The next day it can hear the repeater just fine for a about 3 or 4 times then nothing. Now today iv'e noticed i suddenly can't pick up the weather stations. Is this going to be a radio/programming issue or should i start looking elsewhere like the antenna? i know the anytone isn't a great radio but its what my budget allowed had been working great for offroading.

Hi,

I have a question in the anytone at-778uv. There is no audio during transmission. Just dead key carrier. Basically running transmitting (dead key only) and receiving perfect. I tried it on different channels lower and upper and same thing. Is there a mic gain or a mic mute for this radio? I read the whole manual and there is nothing was mentioned. Any takes and thank you.

If you have an external microphone, see if it works.  I have a friend whose Baofeng failed exactly the same way.  It turns out that the little spring contacts in the microphone jack fail open, as if the microphone were plugged in.

I also heard another person try to transmit on our net once who had something similar happen.  In his case the hole in front of the microphone had gotten plugged.

First, check the tone squelch settings, and make sure you haven't messed them up in the programming.  If you are hearing nothing at all on the weather channels, then it is likely a tone issue.  If you still do hear the FM white noise with the squelch control down, then you have an antenna problem, or a bad receiver.

With the squelch open i still get white noise. what confuses me is that i always reach the repeater and turn it on just not receive the repeater tone it all the time. I am towards the outer edge of the repeater range. ill go over the settings again but i haven't changed one particular repeater to use as a control and that's the one that is hit and miss receiving.

believe I found the problem. there is a sequence to follow when programming that they don't tell you in the manual. I was told that if you don't follow the proper order of events the basic FRS and MURS Channels i have programmed would work properly but the offset for the repeaters does not get programmed properly. Wiped the radio clean and started over following order of operations. everything seems to be working well i can now hit  4 repeaters from 18-25 miles away.
