fremont Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 A bunch of us often go to a friend's place in the country, e.g., hunting trips. He's interested in using my mobile to set up a "temporary" base station there (using his license) but would rather avoid a permanent base. Assuming I'd mount a ground plane on a 1"-2" pole, what bases (tripod, etc.) would you recommend I take a look at? Quote
berkinet Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/1977-a-word-on-antennas/ Quote
Jones Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 If you want something lightweight that folds down for "just grab-and-go" temporary use, I have had good luck with PA system speaker stands such as: https://www.parts-express.com/peavey-tripod-speaker-stand-ii-56-102-black-100-lb-capacity--248-8586 Add a 5-foot mast pipe to the top of this, and your antenna is instantly 12-15 feet in the air. Add some rope and tent stakes for temporary guy wires if it's windy. berkinet and Radioguy7268 2 Quote
berkinet Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 ... Add a 5-foot mast pipe to the top of this, and your antenna is instantly...A collapsible painter’s pole also works quite well. Quote
Kugellager Posted July 18, 2020 Report Posted July 18, 2020 This is the setup I use to test my small antennas. It is a 5ft TV Tripod with a 15ft slightly modified telescoping window washing pole used as the mast. I have my 1/4 wave ground plane antenna on top. Mast weighs about 2.5 lbs. the whole thing takes 5 minutes to set up and makes for a decent 20 ft of height. John];’) Quote
