doctor Posted January 8, 2021 Report Posted January 8, 2021 HI;I tried or attempted to renew my license..expired 2014. Anyhow I brought it up for renewal and filled out the new address etc. Now on summary and all is correct. It says press continue and here is what I get This call sign has expired. To file a renewal, a waiver request is required. Answer the waiver questions and attachment question accordingly. This license is no longer active. To submit this application please provide a waiver attachment. Please try again It says a waiver request is not used for this application. How do I move on...DOCTOR**************************************************************************************************************************OK GUYS THANKS FOR THE HELP.I believe your right after a few years, you have to apply again. They do have a RO to renew, but on the last part continue it won't take,a stumbling block. Anyhow I as one suggested applied for a new license and it was smooth sailing. THANKS TO ALLDOCTOR Quote
mbrun Posted January 8, 2021 Report Posted January 8, 2021 Not sure if there is a mechanism for renewal of an expired GMRS license. After mine expired I applied for new license, new callsign. Perhaps someone else will have additional insight. MichaelWRHS965KE8PLM Quote
JeepCrawler98 Posted January 8, 2021 Report Posted January 8, 2021 I had someone here in town look into renewing their expired license but the waiver fee was hundreds of dollars; I'd call it a loss and just apply for a new one. rdunajewski 1 Quote
jc1240 Posted January 9, 2021 Report Posted January 9, 2021 I don't know if GMRS licenses are handled the same, but with amateur radio you can renew an existing license up to 2 years after it expires. Beyond 2 years, the call sign is permanently gone and one would have to start over including taking the test(s) for the level desired. If GMRS is the same with the 2-year window, you are still way beyond that. Quote
ljh505 Posted January 10, 2021 Report Posted January 10, 2021 The waiver note is bogus. Mention of a waiver is an error in the FCC renewal system for GMRS licenses, because waivers are summarily denied. Did the waiver 3 or 4 months after my GMRS license expired. Spent over $200, and the petition was denied. At the end of the denial explanation, the FCC told me to just buy a new license. This should be what is displayed for an expired FCC GMRS license, not "you can submit a waiver".So over $270 later, I had a new GMRS license and callsign. Don't do the waiver process. Complete waste of money... just apply for and get a new license/callsign. Quote
Jeramief Posted January 10, 2021 Report Posted January 10, 2021 I had one around year 2000 expired in 2005 I saw what they wanted to charge me I just started over. Quote
