Guest Zmiller Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 So, I know next to nothing about radio theory etc. Been looking at GMRS though. My question: Can mobile GMRS units receive repeater input frequencies? To get to the point: Repeater input frequencies are not able to be used for Simplex? Quote
WRAK968 Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 Welcome to MyGMRS. Repeater input frequencies cannot be used for simplex communications by rule. They are reserved for repeater inputs only as to keep those frequencies clear for such use. Mikeam and SUPERG900 2 Quote
mbrun Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 Correct. Repeater input frequencies may not be used for simplex. Some radios may have a feature that allows you to conveniently listen to that frequency so you can determine is someone is within simplex range, but you are not permitted to transmit on that frequency for the purpose of simplex. WRJZ943 Posted March 10, 2021 Report Posted March 10, 2021 Found this post in another thread: Some information in this old thread was based upon the old (pre April 2017) regulations. The new regulation wording allows simplex fixed location to fixed location operation on the 467 mains as long as the RF out of the radio antenna connector does not exceed 15 watts. The new Part 95 Fixed station regulations do not limit the type of antenna, antenna gain or ERP while using the 467 mains.Refer to 95.1763 ( c) for the new operational content, which does not restrict fixed to fixed operations on the 467 mains - as well as 95.1767 (a ) (2) for power requirements of fixed stations. Note FCC Part 95 Definition: "Fixed station. A station at a fixed location that directly communicates with other fixed stations only." *** Fixed stations operating on the 467 mains are not limited to repeater access only under the new rules *** Personally I don't know, but plan on looking at the rules again as it pertains to those frequencies. *** UPDATE: After looking up 95.1763 © it appears the above quoted response from the other thread is inaccurate. From the ECFR.gov website : © 467 MHz main channels. Only mobile, hand-held portable, control and fixed stations may transmit on these 8 channels. Mobile, hand-held portable and control stations may transmit on these channels only when communicating through a repeater station or making brief test transmissions in accordance with §95.319©. The channel center frequencies are: 467.5500, 467.5750, 467.6000, 467.6250, 467.6500, 467.6750, 467.7000, and 467.7250 MHz.Source: https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=45577f22bb4ca90fd7c631e7e63c54e4&mc=true&node=se47.5.95_11763&rgn=div8 SUPERG900 1 Quote
OldRadioGuy Posted March 10, 2021 Report Posted March 10, 2021 On the Wouxun 805G the only way you could do this is to create special channels using your PC with the software and cable. There is no way to do it with just the radio as it comes. Vince Quote
