intermod Posted May 21, 2021 Report Posted May 21, 2021 If you are currently operating one of these technologies (or other digital) in GMRS repeater operation under a special FCC license please contact me offline. We are trying to determine how many are out there now and where. intermod@sngf.org Northern California GMRS Users Group (NCGUG) kc9pke and rdunajewski 2 Quote
Lscott Posted May 23, 2021 Report Posted May 23, 2021 So if there are experimental GMRS repeaters running digital modes under a special FCC license authorization there must be users too. While not currently authorized by the FCC for general use some of us have multimode radios that can receive one or more of these digital modes. If we knew where these repeaters were located it would be fun just to monitor the testing. Quote
WRAK968 Posted May 23, 2021 Report Posted May 23, 2021 Im curious how one gets such a special license? Quote
WQBI410 Posted May 23, 2021 Report Posted May 23, 2021 I think any experimental licenses would show up in the ERS/Part 5 database. Quote
intermod Posted July 16, 2021 Author Report Posted July 16, 2021 I guess we are the only GMRS system operating DMR - I have not heard from anyone (and for some reason I never got notifications after following this topic...). You either file for Special Temporary Authority (STA) or File from 442 under the OET. Quote
gortex2 Posted July 16, 2021 Report Posted July 16, 2021 Officially I think there are few running DMR. Unofficially there are a ton running DMR on GMRS. I hear it all the time while traveling over the east coast. I think the majority are unlicensed and being no one does anything about it will continue. Not saying its right but it happens daily. I would like to get one in P25 on the air in the near future. Quote
