Painting Antenna Cable

Question

Posted

I am thinking about painting my antenna cable (mag mount) to blend in better with the car. It will be a flexible paint and I would rough up the cable surface and prime it.

Any issues with this idea? Thanks for any advice.

I do not expect any performance impacts related to painting the cable. The RF signals travel on the inner surface of shield and outer surface of the center conductor. If by chance the paint had a metallic component, it would have a shielding effect and would be no different that running the coax in conduit, next to or within the metal channels of the vehicle.

I can’t speak to the long-term adhesion though.

Sprayed the cable on my Wilson1000, white, to match the Jeepers.  Just some ole white spray paint.  It's held up for a year now.

I remove it periodically, put it in the Jeep to keep the roof clean.  I take it out when I want to chase a skip on SSB. It's out of the way.
