Padre1357 Posted August 22, 2021 Report Posted August 22, 2021 Can anyone help me out with this? I'm currently looking into which gmrs radios to set my household up with. Liking the features of the Motorola T800 series, as far as the ability of GPS for hiking with a wife and 12yr old stepson with little to no outdoors experience. If I understand it correctly, the T800 is a FRS/GMRS ht without the repeater channels programed in? Is it possible to program those frequencies in? Lots of miss info among the interwebs claiming its strictly FRS with no license needed. I'll always have my ham ht with me but would be great for the family to be able to hit GMRS repeaters if anything goes wrong. Or does anyone have any recommendations for something with similar capabilities. Quote
JarrGen Posted August 22, 2021 Report Posted August 22, 2021 From reviewing the data sheet and manual here (https://shop.motorolasolutions.com/ca/t800-two-way-radios-dual-pack/product/B8F22204LBHAAW) quickly, these are only FRS radios. They have the fixed antennas and are limited to 2W. The only 467 channels are the interstitials which are allowed only .5W in an FRS radio. They may communicate with the GMRS radios on the shared channels but will not be able to use the repeater inputs for 15-22. It looks like the only tailoring you can do is to set the tones, which they refer to as an Interference Eliminator Code. Hope this helps. Quote
