Telescopic whip for GMRS

Question

Posted

I had some extra adapters laying around and I realized I could attach a rather long telescopic whip to my UV5R. It is 28.75” long fully extended, 30.75” with adapters.

I receive just fine with it, I am wondering if it is suitable for transmitting on GMRS.

Thank you.

If you reduce it to 15-3/4 inches (not including adapters), it should act like a 5/8ths wave with your hand acting as the ground plane for 467 MHz transmission on the GMRS repeater channels
