I have the Outback. I have used in the past a TRAM Mag mount attaching it to the hatch back top panel, which has worked well. I want height, so this makes the most logical sense. I have a rack mounted tent on top, so having the magnetic mount means easy moving to facilitate the tent obstacles and the hatch opening.
The problem is, however, the TRAM Mag mount cable does not survive the bend point and will start to fray and shred fairly fast.
Drilling/body modification for a perminate mount is out of the question, and lip mounts are not long enough to allow the tailgate to move from closed to open on the top side...
Can I get a Mag mount with a smaller diameter of cable the will free up some space at the pinch point, or is that the only standard for cabling used? Recommendations from those that have seen and solved similar obstacles?
