Do you have a programing cable? If not, order one from Radioddity and then download the programming software. Radioddity has tutorials one programming radios, watch a few. The steps are the key items, noy necessarily the radio used.

Welcome to the forum !!!

Seems you decided to buy a ham radio that is not preprogrammed (or approved) for GMRS...

In any case, @BoxCar already covered the most important resources - Yes, you want to use a computer and cable - trust us.

Here are the basics:

In order for a repeater to work (receive and transmit at the same time) they are using an "offset" - a different frequency for listening and sending.

Your radio needs to be programmed to shift to the repeater's receiving / listening frequency once you start transmitting. Once programmed, all of that happens "in the background" and you will not even notice. However, that is the reason why you will have to enter two different frequencies (note: in GMRS radios, those frequency pairs are pre-programmed).

To be selective about the signals they re-transmit, repeaters use "tones". Without the right tone, the repeater pretends to not hear you. The repeater listings will show you the right receive tone (the one you transmit to the repeater). Some repeaters also offer a transmit tone that you can (but do not have to) program. With such tone, you are also listening selectively - without you might hear users on simplex.

I hope that this helps you understand the basics and gets you ready for the videos mentioned by BoxCar 👍
