WRZZ740
Hello, (WRZZ740 - Stephen) Purchased myself a hand held Wouxun - RG-UV9GX. I am licensed and many decades ago spoke on HAM with my Family and CB's. (Yes back prior to Cell). Just need to step me through the way to Set the Proper Repeater (that shows OPEN and Active) so I can talk in my area. I want to ensure I am using the proper protocol and of course, be Polite. Any help would be appreciated. I did purchase the Programming (Red Cable) and downloaded the software from Wouxun but gives me a Protocol Error 15 and just closes the program. My Day Job is an IT Professional, so Either the CABLE is bad or the Program from them.

You probably already did this but just in case: Before the cable is plugged in, and before you run the software, you must install the driver for the cable. Then plug in the cable and look in Device Manager and make sure that the driver is attached to a virtual serial port. Then open the CPS software and assign that serial port to the software. WRZZ740
Sshannon, Thank you for your very expediate response. I did install the proper (INF / DLL) for the Radio and software as recommended on several sites, however it just keeps dropping out. From what I can see, the Pictigram is very helpful on the screen, from what little I can see. I can access it with the CABLE successfully with the CHIRP software with no issues and backed up my Config and managed to Update a few things. In the mean time.... I am trying to Setup to utilize a Local Repeater for my First "Hello World". I have the website here. Any Advice on how I "Set" it? https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/details.php?state_id=13&ID=7453
SteveShannon
You probably don’t even need the software to configure it for one repeater. You should be able to do it all from the front panel. However, the repeater that opens up when I click on your link is not a GMRS repeater. It’s a 2 meter ham repeater. The “uplink” frequency is what you set your radio to transmit on. “Downlink” is your receiver frequency That’s usually done automatically as long as the direction of the offset is correct. Then make sure you have the CTCSS tone set to 100.0 Hz
WRZZ740
I will verify my settings and try that. Thank you for your help and patience.
SteveShannon
One of the settings in Chirp is “Squelch Mode.” To begin with, set it to Tone, not TSQL. That way you’ll hear everything transmitted on the frequency your radio is set to receive. WRHS218
