I am new to gmrs and need help programing my radio. Are there any clubs near Woodstock, Ill.? I can listen, but not transmit. I uploaded the newest firmware.

RTFM - Read The FULL Manual. You are probably listening on a simplex channel where you need to be on a repeater channel. Repeater channels usually have some identification such as the letter R after the number.

Your two closest repeaters are both permission required, so use the Repeater section here to ask permission and then try to find their websites and ask permission there, too.

Simplex you are ready to go: tune to the channel and push to talk!
