Question

I just received a Surecom SS11 field strength meter to test some HTs. Installed the antenna fully extended, turned down the amplitude adjustment, and turned it on. Then I tested a Baofeng UV–5G on low power from 6 feet away and the needle went right to the top. Then I stood back 10, 15, and 20 feet away and then needle away right to the top again. Am I doing something wrong or is this unit way too sensitive?
Thanks for any comments

Take the antenna off the meter.
