H3 memories

WRZL697

Question

I cannot transmit on any frequencies or repeaters stored in memories above 054. I can store frequencies and repeaters into memories above 054 but only get an error tone when a try to transmit. I have installed version 240530. I bought two radios at the same time and they both have the same issue so I think I might be doing something wrong. I have tried using chirp and odmaster but still same problem. Any ideas?

That sounds like how my TD-H8 works. The only customizable GMRS channels are 31-52. Memories above that are receive-only. Again, this is on the TD-H8. I don't know about the H3. Channels 1-30 are the standard GMRS channels, with unchangeable frequencies. The manual says nothing about this but it's on their website.

Hopefully we can get another H3 owner to verify how theirs works.

It's silly lazy programming (HereWeGoAgain.gif 🤣).

There's no reason they should restrict how many GMRS channels you should be allowed to have, the radio should enforce its rules no matter what you put on any particular memory slot.

I like to have "my own" set of channels with CTS tones for certain uses where we're not trying to hear anyone else, plus decent full set of 'open' channels, plus a bunch of local and regional repeaters, plus the 8 'open' repeater channels, I'm a good bit past the 52 that they deign I should be able to have.

Which is dumb.

So to configure the thing the way I want, I "have" to run it in "Normal" mode, and program in all the rules manually. It's annoying, but it seems to be the way on a lot of the 'cheap chinese radios'. Did the same with the DB20-G in my truck for the same reasons.

The only radios I have that do it right, IMO, are a pair of KG-905Gs. They have, I dunno, a couple hundred channels? More than I need, regardless, and they enforce the rules for any particular frequency no matter where you put it, and don't limit how you can configure it (other than enforcing the GMRS power and bandwidth rules for each particular frequency)
