GMRS repeater cross-over

Hello GMRS,

I am new to working through the linked GMRS system and on a learning curve figuring things out. The radio I use is a Midland MXT400 (40 watt). I have been able to communicate through a local repeater (Watauga550) with pretty good success. However, what I have noted is that I can follow the same conversations on another assigned repeater channel simultaneously. Is that because when repeaters are linked they may also be broadcasting on a different repeater frequency? I hope this explanation makes sense.

Given that the description mentions it being linked to the GMRS Live network, it's absolutely possible that there's another repeater you're within range of that's also linked to the network, but is using the other frequency you're hearing.

There were two repeaters I occasionally use in my area that didn't start out being link but ended up that way. I don't keep up with that stuff so the way I found out was I had both repeaters up on my 935G as I came down off the mountain. I was going to meet a friend in the valley. I called out on one of the repeaters we had agreed on and lo and behold I heard the transmission on both repeaters. One of those repeaters is now offline. So, as wayoverthere stated, you can definitely be hearing yourself on a repeater that is linked using a different channel/frequency.
