NYCPhil Posted January 1, 2017 Report Posted January 1, 2017 Hello. First thing, please excuse my ignorance as I am still VERY new to this hobby and limited to my Baofeng GMRS V1. I didn't have much interest in getting my tech ticket but technology like APRS and D-Star seem interesting. Are services like that limited to the ham community or are there any GMRS options? Thanks so much in advance! Quote
zap Posted January 1, 2017 Report Posted January 1, 2017 Does technology exist that will operate there, yes. However, there is a statement which only allows analog voice communication in Part 95. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Logan5 1 Quote
NYCPhil Posted January 1, 2017 Author Report Posted January 1, 2017 Ahh ok. That makes sense then. Thank you. Your quick response is appreciated. Quote
jwilkers Posted January 3, 2017 Report Posted January 3, 2017 Data communications are, however, allowed on MURS. AntiSquid Disclaimer: All posted content is personal opinion only and may not imply fact or accusation. Quote
NYCPhil Posted January 5, 2017 Author Report Posted January 5, 2017 Thanks for the info. I assume my choice of radio is limiting me to strictly basics. Thanks again! jwilkers 1 Quote
rfmedic Posted January 8, 2017 Report Posted January 8, 2017 If you want to play with more than just analog FM, come to the dark....i mean ham side. -RfMedic Quote
NYCPhil Posted January 8, 2017 Author Report Posted January 8, 2017 I already got a AARL test book and looked into local test schedules. Quote
