WRYT720 Posted September 2, 2024 Report Posted September 2, 2024 Is the Elkhart repeater down? It’s been at least a few days when I transmit, there’s no sound that I hit the repeater. WRUE951 1 Quote
WRXL702 Posted September 2, 2024 Report Posted September 2, 2024 The Elkhart 550 was shut off on 8.28 when the rest of the Midwest Group repeaters were unlinked as required by FCC rules. It is unknown if that repeater will be reactivated as a stand alone repeater. WRUE951 1 Quote
LeoG Posted September 2, 2024 Report Posted September 2, 2024 I don't understand why they shut them down instead of just unlink them. The NY Reliance repeater system did the same thing months ago and haven't been put back on air. 3 independent repeaters are certainly better then no repeaters. WRUU653 and Raybestos 2 Quote
JBRPong Posted September 2, 2024 Report Posted September 2, 2024 That's a bummer it's offline and the repeaters are no longer linked. I got used to listening in the morning for weather and road conditions when I'm going out of town. WRUE951 1 Quote
WRYT720 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Report Posted September 4, 2024 Thank you, that’s a shame Quote

The three stand-alones, left up and running as such, would probably be an even greater service to their local areas; allowing for three separate conversations to take place at once time, rather than just one. Funny,,, money don't grow on trees... these linking guys were dependent on membership money to keep alive and we know that evaporated. (buff) Now many of these linking guys, whom 'had' 20+ repeaters in operation are stuck with all this equipment.. Wondering if this is why EBay has an uptick of UHF repeater equipment recently. Quote
Herbologer Posted September 7, 2024 Report Posted September 7, 2024 Kind of screwy that this just came around, what with the election, Russia allegedly going to start cutting under sea internet cables and so forth. I don't like it. WRUE951 and gortex2 2 Quote
LeoG Posted September 7, 2024 Report Posted September 7, 2024 So you're one of those huh. Thinking the govt is trying to restrict the people from communicating with each other in less than safe conditions. Welcome to the club! Quote

There is a smaller linked system with at least one machine in range of me. If they dropped the linking, I would much more want to join them so I could use their repeaters as stand-alones, rather than listen to the blather from another part of the state. WRUE951 1 Quote
