I need help and technical advice on my RT-730.

Question

Posted

From Steve Leverette WSEH971.  I have two RT-730 HT's. I'm using this radio or radios for my gmrs radio communications. I've read and watched numerous videos about this model. Can anyone explain to me how to set the frequency and menu options so I can access my repeaters.  I do not understand all the numerous things I need to do to set each RT-730 to activate the lula repeater. It shows on the laptop repeater map it activates the repeater? However; I have yet to hear a response from fellow members and operators. And now I have no audible transmissions.  The green light and meter show signals but no audio. Or carrier but no modulation rx. I would be grateful for any and all help. Thank you very much. Respectfully,  Dr Steve Leverette WSEH971 Toccoa 60 in Baldwin Georgia cellular phone number is 470 297 9075.   I seldom use my high powered ham equipment because I prefer gmrs because of the way I've seen and have heard how operators on gmrs are always willing to help. My goal in gmrs is to form a monitoring system as a 24 hour public service for emergency channel service in the future. We sure had a lot of cellular service down after this helene storm ripped alot of our radio communications out. My dream is to have operators who would donate their time to monitor these areas 24 hours a day 365 days a year. I just want to help others. We should always show compassion for each other.  Thanks again, Doc Leverette. God bless

Hi Doc,

First, make sure that you don’t have a tone set for receive.  Or make sure the Tone mode is Tone, not T-SQL.  That way you’ll hear everything you receive on the frequency.

Second, if you’re trying to transmit with one of the two radios and listen with the other right next to it, there's a possibility that the one you’re listening on is being desensitized by being so close to the transmitter.

Third, I strongly suggest that you edit your post and remove your cell phone number.  You can always send it to one of us in a private message, but posting it on a public forum might result in your phone number being harvested by bots and you becoming targeted by scammers. I have obliterated it from the quote box above.

Finally, It is possible that people just are not monitoring the repeater and for that reason you might not get a response.  See if the repeater has any kind of net scheduled. If it does that might be a way for you to connect with others.  In my experience ham radio repeaters are more likely to have people monitoring for unscheduled contacts.

Welcome to the forum.  Your goal to help others during emergencies is admirable!
