desertbird Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Thinking about putting a 40w mobile unit on my truck, I know nothing about them at the moment, But have UV5Rs. It there a 40w mobile unit that I can use CHIRP and copy my HTs settings to the mobile unit via a SD card, app or some way easily? Note I do listen to HAM and want those frequencies open. Quote
Socalgmrs Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Yes many duel band radios. Just make sure you get a good 6db gain antenna and mount it up as high as possible. Don’t get a 40w and neuter it with a salt shaker antenna mounted in a fender. Also make sure you have a non ground plane antenna or a good ground plane. Don’t spend $200 on a ground plane antenna then stick it in a fender or roof rack bar like many of the jokers do. Quote

Do a web search for "year/make/model of vehicle amateur radio install". You'll find a ton of info and usually along with it what works and what doesn't. Quote
WRXB215 Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 @desertbird to answer your actual question, the Retevis RA87 is a 40 watt that is CHIRP compatible. There are others, 40 and 50 watt. Just do a google search. desertbird 1 Quote
