SteveGibbs Posted April 23, 2025 Author Posted April 23, 2025 Welcome aboard, I monitor Thompson Station, Brentwood, both Franklin and Grasslands repeaters. We have not set up a formal net, but with 44 members we should be able to set up some days and times for shout outs. TheMeatTrapper and WSDV406 2
WSCE776 Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 Good evening everyone! My name is Seth and Im located in Murfreesboro. Currently I have a set of UV-5R handhelds and a pair of Radioditty DB20-G GMRS mobile radios for my family vehicles. Usually only on GMRS channel 20 using CTCSS 141.3 to hear everything go on around me. I will monitor RUTHERFORD 600 at CTCSS 114.8 and SMG1 at CTCSS 229.1 when Im trying to really reach out and contact others. I would love to start making contacts and learn more about the GMRS community and how to operate effectively. Please feel free to reach out at any time as I constantly monitor this account. The Gallatin Repeater at 650 is by far the most active that I hear, in the area I'm able to monitor at least. Other than that, Brentwood 600 and Brentwood Grasslands (also at 650) are the next most active for me. I can't currently reach a lot of yall's great repeaters further south with my current setup. Looking forward to reaching you soon though. Welcome to the group brotha. Looking forward to making contact with ya SteveGibbs 1

I'm usually scanning during the day on Wednesdays and Fridays during the work day (~8:30-5:00) including today. Give me a shout. WSHZ630 - Adam. You might want to key up for 10 seconds or so before trying to be sure I pick you up on scan, that's about how long my cycle is. WSDV406 and SteveGibbs 2

I can't get out to most of the repeaters you monitor, but I'm always monitoring Brentwood 600, if you're able to get out to that one. As a matter of fact, this club has a check-in net on that repeater on Wednesday evenings at 8pm. So key up over there with us whenever you're available and if you can hit that one. I also may be able to make contact with ya via Lebanon 675. Glad to test that sometime with ya. Hopefully I can hit the repeaters a little further south once i get my antenna and base station (finally) setup.

BubblesUp Posted October 1, 2025 Posted October 1, 2025 Hello all! So here I am, lost as usual LOL Thanks for letting me butt into your club. Hopefully you’ll let me hang out and teach me right from wrong, help keep me out of trouble and help me figure out my place in the GMRS world. Here’s my situation. I’ve been operating 2 way radios for over 50 years. Started with 2 paper cups and a string, then advanced to 2 tin cans (much better than paper cups, especially when it rained ) then CB as a kid, later got into aviation where I use VHF and HF. Later in life, camping with the family I used FRS radios to keep up with the kids roaming the campground and surrounding hiking trails. Also enjoyed the ability to receive NOAA broadcasts. We sometimes camp in areas with very little to no cell or WiFi so this was a good way to keep an eye on the weather. Skipping to today, I get this great idea (so it seemed) to buy a couple of GMRS radios. Great idea to me as they have a little more power and the ability to possibly hit a repeater to extend coverage looks like a good deal. Now I have 2 Retevis Ailunce HA1G pretty green GMRS radios. Easy .. just get a GMRS license, order, receive them and pull them out of the box and off you go …. straight off the cliff! LOL As Robin said to Batman .. holy crap Batman .. or something like that. Frequencies, tones, codes, STDs () bla bla bla. So I’ve read the manual that came with the radios. I’ve watched several YouTube videos explaining things. Hard to learn something when they are using terminology without any definition. And I can’t find a specific video about my radios. So before I do something stupid or screw something up, I’m asking for help. Yes, even though I’m a guy, I did stop and ask for directions when I was lost before smart phones with GPS and nav came out. I’m not too proud to do that and I know when to admit when I’m stupid. I feel pretty stupid right now concerning GMRS. So if someone has a little free time and a little patience, I’d love to learn. And quite frankly, I’m also excited about expanding the use of my radios beyond talking to the fam and listening to the weather. The groups I’m hearing about and apparent camaraderie among GMRS’ers sounds like it could be a fun hobby. You can find my name and location through my license. I’ll be glad to provide my email address and phone number to anyone willing to devote a little time to a newbie. My preference would be to meet in person so I can get hands on knowledge. The bar tab will certainly be on me!! Otherwise, you’ll have to provide crayons and coloring book explanations to me. I’m not that tech savvy even though I fly multi million dollar planes. Scary huh? Thanks to you all for bearing through my diatribe. Sorry to those that have fallen asleep. Dwayne .. WSKG222 Oh … and in case you are wondering about “BubblesUp”. It’s a reference to a Jimmy Buffett song. Fins Up! kstaff7, SteveShannon, WSDV406 and 1 other 4

Hey there @WSKG222. Apologies that I missed your post. Welcome to our little corner of the GMRS world! I entered the GMRS world kind of the same way. I got sold a set of Baeofeng UV5R's at a Gun Show by a booth that made everything sound SOOOOO simple. Wrong. Straight off a cliff indeed. Or into a dead end. Or "something like that" indeed. I couldn't believe how much there actually was to learn before being able to make these radios actually usable. We're here to help and looking forward to chatting with ya. Sounds like a quick chat on the phone might be a bit more help for you, rather than trying to has things out via a forum. I'm glad to do so if you're interested. Just let me know. SteveGibbs 1

M3DOC Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 Hello everyone. I am Mike from Brentwood. Just got my GMRS license 2 weeks ago and own 2 Baofeng DM-32UV radios. I was excited to talk tonight with @WSDV406 on the Brentwood 600 repeater since that was my first time on a repeater and I was not sure if I set my radios up correctly. I plan to be on the Brentwood 600 repeater. Looking forward to meeting more of you. Elmo777, WSDV406 and SteveShannon 3
WRXD746 Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 Have we established a regular meeting day/time? Or options? I’m able to ping the Thompson Station/Franklin repeaters from my HT’s. Now that I’m back in the area again, I’d like to start participating in a regular net check. WSDV406 1

WSDV406 Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 Welcome @M3DOC! Nice to chat with ya yesterday evening and welcome to the larger GMRS fam and our little branch of it, specifically. And yes, @WRXD746, our only organized net happens on the Brentwood 462.600 repeater, CTCSS 123.0 in and out, every Wednesday at 8pm. That repeater has a massive footprint. That said, if you -- or anyone, for that matter -- is in an area that is NOT covered by that repeater, by all means speak up. Let us know. If we need to have multiple nets on different repeaters across the area, we're totally glad to do so. But we can't organize such if we don't know there's a want/need for it. So if you can't reach Brentwood 600, but you want to take part in regular club nets, speak up! Bonus, that will allow us to begin to expand our emergency preparedness across a larger area as well.
